Honestly there were choices to show some form of "masculinity". When Clara was forced to humiliate him, there was a choice to become angry at her and tell her how rude and bad it was of her to do it. That was the normal thing to do.
I also don't think it is considered "masculine" to cheat on your wife. So Alan trying to not get tempted by Anna just shows he is a decent man (yeah in porn games this is considered to be loser attitude but character wise its not) and yet there are still options to indulge Anna for a couple moments longer.
Then there were some boldness moments where we could make Alan stop Harrison from touching Clara and not being afraid to back down from Dylan. The other boldness points recently was when Alan hacked Harrison's laptop. Maybe he might find something there like Grace suspected. I think all of this will add up in the future.
Like someone said here I believe Grace is here to make sure Alan won't end up like his father and she has yet to tell Alan the entire truth.
