Like early plans of the MC having a sister, and her being either part of (or being controlled by) one of the big factions (ORG, ELD or FEY)
Jessica was also going to have a daugther around the same age as the MC, but he said something about not really being able to fit her in the story.
Also Jessica's character eventually ended up being this very motherly woman that could never have kids (because Tom is useless)
Then again, stuff like distant relatives isn't really that hard to just shoehorn in place, some aunt or cousin the MC didn't know about.
But at that point I'd have to ask, is it just the blood relation folks are going after or is it about the family bond shifting into something romantic and/or sexual?
I'd personally go for the second part, so to me distant relatives are worthless for the sake of the kink.

Common misconception.
