Instagram is not a good example. The majority of girls are heavily plastic to the point of no recognition, I can barely find normal attractive looking girls without heavy filters of photos

But how they achieve that is irrelevant entirely. They are doing it anyway and if it didn't work for them, they wouldn't do it. Their whole job is to be attractive to as many people as possible.

Basically, there is a whole industry around female beauty standard made out of cosmetics, fitness routines, social media and software engineering to create better and better filters and image enhancers. Probably billions of dollars are spent annually to achieve relatively similar result for millions of women across the entire world. But people in this thread somehow claim that apparently it doesn't exist. Or that all these people are idiots and are trying to cater to something that doesn't exist.

No, it's not stupid if you work on your face and body naturally. It's a problem when your face and body start to fall apart and your mental health decline to the point of depression due to the years of pressure and plastic transformation. There are many stories on internet for a reason, just Google the dark side of a beauty standards. Not to mention, that girls who are a natural had problems in the modeling because of the jealousy from other girls. I know this well because I was for a short time in this world. Same for actresses who are now addicted to Ozempic and for porn, a lot of pornstars off themselves, not surprisingly, most of them are women.

Without writing too much, I have one point I think is important. Alone in this thread you will not be able to find a consense of what all find attractive. Now, why would the def of this game use some statistics to force the player character to pay attention to a beauty standard the player has no interest in.

For example: if the player chooses to take small breasts as attractive ingame (you can take 5). Then why should there be something that rates counter to this pick (if we assume small breasts are not the beauty standard in most cases)?

A general attractive score exists with the heart icons some NPCs have or not? Do we discuss anything about the game or is this philosophical?

Yeah, I agree, the player can already pick what their PC finds attractive, and then the NPCs get an attractiveness rating accordingly. What else is needed?

The issue I think that the original poster had (before it devolved into discussion about universality of beauty) is that there is no sense of progression in the game. Whatever you do, your character will have about the same reactions from everyone.

To me it kinda falls into the same problem as Skyrim (great comparison, I know) - whatever you do, it doesn't really matter, the world doesn't react meaningfully to your actions.

Yeah the main thing is feeling progression.

I want to play as a female and have the progression of people commenting about you being unattractive / mid. And then working out at the gym, buying nicer clothes, doing better makeup, increasing breast size etc. And have people fawning over you.

It would be cool if there were hot or not lists or something posted around campus where the football team and other douches rank the top 10 and bottom 10 girls in the school. Would be cool to move up their lists.

Could also do a top 10 most popular / least popular list too

The question would be what you want to progress in. It is like the meaning of life, everybody wants another thing.

In my opinion, you want a typical school simulation (in the USA) where some kids think that the newest fashion and plenty of makeup and a magically perfect body makes someone better than others? With the flexibility the games give, I don't think that the game will have too much shallow content and sadly, there is no magic until now.
I don't want to be too disrespectful, but I also don't want to think too much about what to write. Sorry.

I also think that the NPC reacts to the players' parameters, like body, clothes, makeup etc. the things you can set your likes and dislikes. In addition, they could be jealous, I am not too sure, but we have some drama and realism. If there is a beauty contest, how would you hold up these existing systems?

There is a lot implemented. So we have to be more specific about what could be added, that is not yet on the roadmap.
For example, there could be a list of how many people you have had sex with. Something you can count ingame.

Click People -> Sexual Partners for a list of characters you've had sex with, and Character -> Character Memories to get your number of sexual partners total.

No not everyone has different tastes. Take a human biology class. We all value health and signs of sexual health as attractive. Big breasts and long hair on females are attractive as we see those as markers of health, wide hips are attractive as it's more likely the baby and mom will live past child birth.

Negative markers of health in women are being obese or too skinny, narrow hips, tiny breasts. Men in general are not attracted to these things.

I agree that people are attracted to various things within reason, but there are things that are objectively non attractive and things that are generally objectively attractive to the opposite sex, like large breasts, wife hips etc.

I'm not arguing that no one finds girls with tiny boob's, or who are obese attractive, but in general, the majority of people are not and we should see that reflected.

Hell, just give us a way to customize what npcs generally find attractive and call it a day

It's really easy to forget nowadays because of modern medicine, but these were valid throughout most of history. Pregnancy and childbirth are extremely stressful on the body, and it was all too common for the mother, baby or both to not survive the process. So it's only natural for factors that mitigate the risks (larger breasts, wider hips, ect.) to be more attractive on an instinctual level.

This notion of "any body type is attractive" is relatively new due to a mixture of cultures (the world is more interconnected than ever, so tastes in people intermingle), advances in medicine (less worry about surviving childbirth), and ease of daily life (most don't have to grow their own food, build their own stuff, ect.). It all means we're more free to explore sexual interests that would've been counterintuitive to basic survival before.

Obesity has been considered attractive by the majority in some societies, both past and present. So there goes their "majority of people are not and we should see that reflected" nonsense tossed right out the front door.

Obesity as an attractive factor in the past more had to do with status and fertility than pure sexual desire. "Oh this woman must be very wealthy to be able to afford so much food as to be big and plump like this, and she'd have no trouble keeping a baby nurtured through pregnancy!"

Nowadays with how absurdly easy it is to become overweight (especially in first world countries where obesity rates are reaching all-time highs, in fact it's harder NOT to be overweight), it's become less of a status and more of a fetish. If you've ever watched My 600 Pound Life you'd notice half the time the "stars" on the show are accompanied by enabling feeders who secretly get off giving them ungodly amounts of food to watch them bloat up like a pufferfish.



Bear in mind here, I'm a gay man with a boyfriend, so I'm by no means one of those "We have to stop the birthrate drops!" nutjobs. But it's poignant to point out that "conventional preferences" exist for a reason, both out of biological and historical biases.

I'm fine with likes & dislikes as they are atm but think a baseline beauty stat could be well implemented. Leave it vague and not directly tied to any customizeable traits, so a high baseline beauty stat would mean a decent enough bone structure (not model-like or anything), healthy teeth, etc and the opposite would mean a more homely appearance, maybe eyes that are too close together, etc. None of that would be specified, it'd be up to the player's imagination. Taste is subjective, sure, but there is such a thing as looking at a person and recognizing they are objectivelly good looking even if they're not your type. Then likes & dislikes + how put together and well rested the character is would be taken into consideration when rating your character's attractiveness to NPCs & vice versa.

If you play a character with lower baseline beauty stat it would become even more important to learn a NPC's likes and dislikes to increase your chances with them. Dislikes could have a higher penalty to attractiveness as well in those cases as well as bullying events happening more often. On the opposite end a high baseline beauty stat would be more likely to get catcalled, they'd be considered attractive by more NPCs and if you went out of your way to suit their likes and dislikes (or that just happened to be the case) they'd be even more attracted to you to the point of getting obssessed, not accepting a break up, etc.

I understand some people not being into that sort of gameplay but I personally can see a lot of fun and depth to be added into the game with it.

Personally i think it'd be something like "How much effort do you put into appearing well groomed", so you wouldn't have a high beauty stat if you only do something about your appearance when the game informs you your hair is now officially in a different length category.

I was thinking more along the lines of your baseline beauty stat being mostly fixed outside of how well rested or put together your hair or clothes are + minor stuff like getting a facial, etc. Just a little "you look more refreshed" flavour text and your baseline beauty stat goes up. More of a difficulty level to how attractive your character can be to others so you'd have to pay closer attention to likes and dislikes and make enough money to get clothing in a specific style, mainting them and mantaining your styled hair, makeup, etc. But if it were to be something you can increase significantly then fillers that mimic bone structure to give people cheekbones & a sharper jaw are a thing irl. Results aren't always great but this is a game after all (even if it does strive to be realistic-ish) so there's no need to add a realistic simulation of filler in the character's body that would eventually lead to pillow face.

What the general NPCs tend to like and dislike could be customizeable like how you can customize how likely NPC's specific reactions to kinks are in Lilith's Throne. So if you want a playthrough where your not-so-attractive chubby character get's hotter by working out and wearing push up bras you could edit the NPCs preferences so they usually dislike chubiness & like big breasts. If you want a playthrough where no one cares about how thin or fit others are you can make it so no NPC likes or dislikes those traits.
