The thing with the bar is that you can take it in the other direction, supposedly, and even that has nothing there. The game has a fair number of systems in place, but you can't really do anything with any of them.

There's a weather system in place, but it doesn't really do anything. You've got all these clothes, but no reason to use anything but a couple of outfits. And on and on and on. Like, punish us for wearing the same clothes for a week straight or something. Make weather have an actual effect on gameplay.

The issue is likely one of scope. There's way too much to add in terms of basics and no real storyline or win condition so there's no real end goal for development. As a result it's stalled out at the first semester while system after system gets added and the game spins it's wheels.
There could be both sides.
While some people will comment on your bad Hygiene, maybe even lose Lust and / or friendship and ultimately shun you entirely, there should also be those that have a certain fetish, that get turned on, Lust and friendship increases as they want to sniff you.

I think the poster is right though. There are several shallow systems or paths that could be fleshed out. Jobs for example. Burger and Cantina jobs lack any meaningful content, Bar stops after becoming a Toplessbar. Sports are quite shallow too. While Cheerleading and Football are OK-ish, swimming and especially E-Sports lack any meaningful content. Game bets could become bigger.

Instead we get a new Cardgame that is unnecessarily complex imo.
I didn't suggest that the person I'm replying to is wrong, only that the game is not wide, either. The card game came completely out of left field. I think it's difficult to make it intuitive without graphics but the real problem there isn't too much width, it's that it's a strange thing to be adding at all. There is a lot that needs to be added to the city for it to feel like an actual city, for example. There isn't even a club. There's a lot of grind that I think only makes sense if you approach the jobs from a realistic standpoint, but actually infects every other part of the game, too. This is concealing that there is very little content by extending the period over which you are able to access it. This could be resolved by "deepening" to increase the ratio of events to grind, but could also be resolved in the same way by expanding in-game opportunities for things to do over the week.

I think this kind of lifesim is intended as a sandbox, so I don't think a more developed storyline (the kind you'd see in a VN) or win condition would be appropriate to it. The gold standard for these games are a) reliably emergent narratives or b) deep enough mechanical interaction to allow for experimentation on how to exploit the system in unique and unpredictable ways. Others are right that the former (the latter is likely beyond its scope) is unlikely without deepening existing systems (including character interactions).

Honestly I think we can all think of little things that can be added to make the game more immersive such as "groupies" for the teams so if you're a cheerleader then certain men will be more attracted to you, penis size being a quality that girls have a preference for and will pursue guys with the size they like, people you are at the same place at the same time as regularly starting up conversations with you (ie. go to the gym at 7am every day and someone who also does that becomes a friend), etc.

I think they would add much more to a relationship / sex sim like CoT more than a card game.

It's a game, it will end at some point. You're not going to be turning 66 in the game and watching your virtual grandkids grow up. The end goal for this seems to be college graduation, but it hasn't taken a single step toward that. The first semester exists, but that's all there is. After nearly two years.

The mechanics aren't consequential enough for actual emergent gameplay. The weather system is designed so that, regardless of weather, you can wear whatever you want even if it makes no sense. You can wear a coat in the middle of summer with no real consequences, same with going naked in the middle of winter. The relationship and friendship system doesn't actually require any gameplay, nothing we do there affects anything short of getting caught cheating on a partner. Just go on a hangout every now and again, all of which are totally on rails, and it's fine. It's like this in pretty much every situation. Even the character storylines end right as things start to get interesting.

It just needs more depth. Right now it's just a shallow puddle that's getting wider without getting any deeper.

I've been wearing same set of clothes for almost a year without washing them and nobody seems to care, at least not yet. I believe future updates having PC "punished" for wearing the same smelly clothes such as your classmate sitting next to you will comment about your smelly clothes despite already maxed the hygiene meter.

I mean, the game does allow for going to next year, but doesn't seem to take "enrolling in classes" and different classes into account. Which is something that should be fixed.

It isn't supposed to do that according to the dev, they just haven't implemented the next semester yet so the game just keeps the current semester going.

... which is good, very good, because it is far from finished. So far there is still hope that the game will be great some day despite being shallow and repetetive at the moment. Don't give up hope, it might make sense depending on the next steps, although it is not too encouraging to know that this will show in about a year or so. Patience... well...
