Review for Covenent of Morn v0.3.3

Overall: 4/5 - I played this game for the first time at version 0.3.3. There is a lot to like about this game, and I give it the credit it deserves for what it is trying to be. However, in my opinion, it's not erotic, it's just weird, and it would be better without explicit sex. I'm sure there are players that like it, but I'm bowing out.

Story: 4/5 - There's a good story here. Much more story than is needed for an adult game.

Writing: 5/5 - The writing is great, but to be honest, it's over-the-top and wasted on this type of game.

Renders: 4/5 - Most renders are really good. However, normal people are depicted as red doll-like forms with no face, no hands, and no feet. What the actual fuck? The excuse given in the story about why they are seen that way seems like a cheap excuse for the dev to not use/create models of real people for all of the scenes.

Animations: 4/5 - Animations are good, and they are used more frequently than most games, and not just in lewd scenes.

Sound: 3.5/5 - The sounds are all fairly quiet even with the volume turned up. The music is kind of generic, but at least it's not super loud or super annoying, same for the sound effects, and that makes the sound above average.

Gameplay: 4/5 - The sandbox UI is very well done and new features are introduced slowly, which helps with any learning curve a player might have. The store minigame is boring and is a rip-off from other games. There are several choices that can lead to a very early game-over. Not sure why they even exist other than to taunt players.

Content: 4/5 - There's a lot of story content and a some lewd content. The lewd content is just too weird to be erotic. The story doesn't say it, but the MC is basically a zombie. The first two lewd scenes are a zombie having sex with a blind witch and a zombie getting a blowjob from a demon with reptilian skin. Combine that with all of the "normal" people being doll-like with no face or hands or feet and I don't intend to stick around and see how the content gets "better". It's just not for me.

I played v 0.3.2

Riveting. The opening contains a very brief period of atmospheric tension, then the full force of 395games's storytelling comes hard and fast with engaging characters and rich world-building. Of course, the art is fantastic (as can be seen in the preview stills), and the animations do not disappoint. While light on gameplay, mostly focusing on story, there seem to be extended puzzle sections which are thoroughly engaging. I'm only a few hours in, but so far, I'm incredibly impressed.

After really enjoying Mist, I waited a few updates before finally starting this one because I wanted a decent chunk of content to sift through.

As with Mist, this does certain things in the top 5% of games on the site. The worldbuilding, character design, and UI are top notch. It's obvious that a lot of effort was put into this and it shows in the finished product. Animations are improved too.

No stock assets, no cookie cutter plot. Definitely worth a playthrough.

Story might have had the potential to be good, but it just gets ruined by an extremly cringy mindset of the MC and everyone else really, which takes focus away from what should matter....the story, but ive seen better dialogs in porn movies then in this one.

What ruins it for me is how MC has the mindset of a 12 year old pervert, hes just come back to life and all he thinks about is tits and wanting to fuck someone he just met, i mean gimme a break thats the first thoughts he has? come on... kill hes ass and bring back a normal dude instend of this perverted idiotic, its so damn cringy constantly having to read about how MCs dick twitches or how hes dick is straining against hes pants i mean its seriously awfull writting, even more so since it dosent fit with what the story is doing at that point....

MC then blindly accepts the offer from the witch, i mean fair enough she got him back to the living but still he should be more worried and not just have a single track mind of lust....first thing that pops into MCs mind seeing someone is "Shes very attractive" it feels a bit idiotic.

I always found it stupid when devs make MCs think like that since the player might hate how someone looks so those toughts should be left out of the game and let one who plays the game think for them selfs instend, it would make for a better game that way.

I had hoped for a more serious story or atleast an attempt to make one but when MC gets stabbed on the stage for execution surrounded by guards and the other witch and then Enna MCs witch i guess you can call her, starts talking to MC then undresses her self on top of MC, right in the middel of a fucking fight to save someone from being executed things just makes no sense what so ever....did the witch cast a spell to take them away? who knows nothing is explained so it all feels off.

To top that off it offers you the first choice in the game, accept becoming a murdere and a slave to the witch or reject her... if you reject her it leads to game-over.... i just hate fake choices why even put them in game....
So now your forced to accept her and have her forced on you in a sex scene, it dosent get more kinetic then this.
MC also trust the witch waaay to fast and way to easy, she refused to tell him stuff which she clearly tells him but yet MC trusts her and wants to fuck her some more, hes a slave to pussy and stays in lala land due to that.

The skin color of MC also feels stupid and kinda ruins sex scenes since you cant really put yourself in hes shoes when he looks like he does, so that a bit of a failure really, same goes for the world all people look like wierd blobs no faces nothing remotly human like which makes the game feel empty like using blank/black NPCs.

As for the renders they are pretty low quality and a bit grainy which dosent help the overall feel of the game, funny enough the animations are really good and well made.

The sandbox part is a bit idotic as they mostly are, it dosent give you any real freedom and your forced to follow a set questline making hole game fully kinetic and should be taged as such, you cant progress story without doing the questlines and since they will also lead to sex scenes everyone will be forced on you, so its a pure mindless fuckfest porngame nothing more.

To give you an exsamble, MC walks into a room and a girl jumps him and MC can for unknown reason mind contole her and forces her to give him a BJ, you as the player has 0 choices in anything as always.

This why i just cant take the story or the game seriously, it has to have choice to be any good, i never play kinetic novels for that reason and this one should have the kinetic tag to warn players that you have no choices.
Game also just ends out of nowhere, no matter if you have made all the progress you can in the game which is a bit idotic, i tried going for dates to start with and game stopped before i even started looking in the vail area thing.

I dident find a single girl cute or hot when it came to faces, the diversity in builds are pretty shitty as well, they are all in the smaller size not that i mind since thats just what i like but for the rest whos into the bigger tits theres nothing to come for, also theres only 2 girls at the moment as well.

This is by far the best part of this hole game, but it cant hold up a game on its own.

There arent any real choices, you follow a set questline and everything is kinetic, you cant turn down anyone so you fuck all.

Boring mini games, some arent even possible like fishing, cursor going 200 mph so no chance of stopping it so might as well just use skip option.

Beginning with the intro of the game:
The game couldn't fool me by throwing heavy and fancy language and its beautifully crafted renders at me.
90% of the text is plain redudant/ fills the space with nothing important- reading through it got exhausting way too fast indeed.
Yet, the story is shallow and boring, because there is too little information (> 1000000 lines of text, but 2 lines of useful information, just as already mentioned) and this makes progress almost painful.

The render quality of both still pictures and animated scenes are top of the art, just as one can expect from 395games.
BUT this does not save the game from its core weakness, the plot and gameplay.

The "real" game:
The game gets better once the horrible intro is over and the actual story starts.
You will enter free roam, grind some, and unlock new scenes and story progression- just like back in MIST.

Unfortunately, the game itself is pretty boring. And why on earth did the dev had to put the "sex energy" mechanic into the game? It does make some sense in connection with the MC and his dependency on his lady, but it's just annoying and not understandable that ignoring to refill the energy bar by having ANY kind of intimate action (kissing, petting etc.) will let the MC die - Game Over. Yep, that's right. Once the fill meter reaches zero, the game ends and you will have to load an earlier save.

And while the NPCs are somehow adorale, the interactions with them (grinding through the same actions again and again) feel annoying, too.

For v0.3:
Much like MIST, you can expect this game to sport the best graphics on F95, a simplified art style that actually works due to this dev being stupid good at all things graphical, and higher than average creativity.

Unfortunately, much like MIST, this game also comes with stilted writing and frivolous exposition. This means that sometimes you will be tempted to skip reading and click through a lot of stuff. It also makes it harder for character development and the relations between them to shine.

With that said, the visuals do make this game a cut above, and I would recommend it on that merit alone as an exercise to see just how far top tier graphics can lift a game.

"Mist" wasn't as beautiful, but characters were more lively, as was plot.

This dev puts out some of the highest quality renpy-based games I've ever seen.
This review is for v0.3, so it's a bit premature, but I'm comfortable writing it regardless.

This game is smooth. It runs well, the UI is clean and polished; this is not a cookie cutter renpy UI.
The environments/backgrounds look great. The story, so far, is great (and also right up my alley so that's my bias).

My only complaint at this point is that there are some scenes where the characters look like they're made of play-doh...
Aside from that, it's very linear and not wearing the sandbox tag well, but it sounds like that will change as the game sees further development.

I can't knock a star off for the play-doh scenes because I'm just a man, and the moment I unwrapped Moran's delicious puffy nips, there was only one way this could go.

I waited for this game to have a couple updates before picking it up and im glad to see the quality is easily up to par with MIST and has potential to be even better. Super excited for the direction this game goes with its story with so many questions and intrigue right off the start. Also I absolutely love the 2 characters so far and their dynamic with the MC, super excited to see how these relationships establish and build over time especially with how little they seem to like him.

Mc's zombie purple skin is ruining every sex scene lol. I don't know why dev had to add shitty sandbox mechanics. I am getting tired of mc's naivety and simping. From the trailer I thought the mc was some badass ancient warrior as hiis tomb was hidden. Only saving grace are good renders.

The game is ok so far, his other game was better.

Renders are good, animations are good, but the models are just weird looking, the MC is a grey ugly zombie looking ass. The females just aren't that attractive. The mini games are lame, I'm not enjoying the sandbox style.

Basically it feels like the dev took 2 steps backwards when making this game.

For v0.2

This is a great start to your new game. I highly enjoyed Mist with its story and atmosphere and especially the animations. The graphics/animations in this so far have only went up in quality and I have yet to find anything better in other games. This may be because I also just prefer the art style. The stories pacing seems like it could use some work but I'm sure that will be ironed out with more updates.

One thing about your games that is different from the rest of these adult games is the production quality. I instantly felt immersed in the world from the first cutscene, and I want to know more about the world/story because it's genuinely interesting. I usually have no interest in story when it comes to these type of games.

Now for the bad.

Although the story has been immersive so far, I don't enjoy being in the submissive role. I wouldn't consider this femdom but it does have that type of vibe to it so far. I know the story itself is set in stone but besides the main girl who revived us I hope the majority of animations aren't like this.

Maybe it isn't applicable to talk about content in a v0.2 as we don't know what's coming. It does seem lacking though, and I just hope it is similar in length to Mist, or specifically, not shorter. This comes back to what I said about pacing. Everything seems to be moving very quickly. Mist also had a bunch of high quality animations, and I hope that doesn't change. While the animation quality has gone up, I also feel as if the thought put into the animations so far has gone down. This might just be because it's early in the game.

For v0.2:
This game has one of the best narratives I've experienced in a while, the characters are beautifully developed and the attention to detail is great.
The game's graphics alone make it worth playing. Im glad the dev continued his progress and kept high standard, really excited to see whats next

The atmosphere and the mystery of this game are amazing. I like the darker mystery and honestly I think in terms of story its a lot more compelling then MIST. I actually want to know more about my characters past and the side characters.

In terms of a porn game the renders are amazing. Even if currently the fetishes' don't float your boat knowing MIST and the planned 5-6 love characters we can get intimate with I am sure almost all the same tags as MIST will be hit in time. In the mean time I don't understand all this downvoting. This developer has proved themselves in the past, so let them experiment and be creative

- Art is *very* good
- I like the gentle femdom style of some of the scenes
- MC looks interesting and isn't a generic model

- Currently lacking in content. There's a few scenes but not altogether much, though that isn't surprising at this stage.

This is my content review 0.2,

For an early demo/early development, I'm a little concerned when I saw some very positive reviews, but I honestly have no idea what these people are seeing here, for starters the game is completely overrated for what it offers right now.

I liked Mist and I know the developer there, but here this game failed to hook me like Mist. Firstly, for the game's own story, you play as a pathetic-looking zombie smurf who's been revived by a witch through a ritual, and now we're given the daunting task of killing his good twin sister, by contract and by law. . our lives. . Well, fuck it, let's go! what !?!.

Right from the start, we immediately have an encounter with her sister, which isn't to kill her, but to free someone who later turns out to be the snake demon/maid, but it would have worked better if the mob looked like the mob and whether the executioner was someone else. and only after the game addresses that we are undead and we could have killed her during this but did we have the resolve to do so? we lack determination... euuh ok...

Next is the relationship between the MC and the lead Enna... then briefly some femdom "two of the sex scenes mc was extremely passive" and mixed in with tsundere, she's ready to go but I'm not in the mood, now later we are forced to have sex to live or we die. and well we try to make it hey you don't seem that into this concept but enna is like no we're wrong and more forced sex not exactly sexy again we have a scene today this time and we get kicked out and it's shown that she digs her nail in her own arm after that now, well then she really hates it and it's even more fucking depressing.

If I continue to play this game, I'll probably ignore Enna's route, since MC doesn't need to have sex with her to survive.

The demon maid scene gave the MC a forced BJ, otherwise she would supposedly kill the MC, and even has the audacity to bite his dick, luckily the guy is a living dead, Now leave that issue aside, let's see the renders , the environment looks decent, but nothing extraordinary and well, the lighting is too dark for many renders, the people (humans) are all in blob form now that has a reason for the story, but the blob renders really break the immersion and the boring mini-game of clicking an object to please a blob, oh yeah, we see others as a blob too.

Honestly 0.02 and we have nothing to really enjoy here. boring minigame of clicking on an object to please a blob, oh yes we see others as a blob, ok we have a good explanation about this but it seems lazy to be honest.

So I'm going to leave it in the fridge, maybe after 1 year and a half of content the game has improved and I'll be able to re-evaluate it, currently it's pretty average and without salt.

This game is great so far. Obviously its pretty early in development still, but it seems like it will be just as good if not better than Mist. The writing is solid, I like all the characters so far. There is actual interest to the sex scenes as well, not just basic "girl wants to fuck. you fuck." The setting is pretty interesting and the story seems good so far.

The one thing I really appreciate though are the visuals and in particular the environments. This dev is one of the extreme few that actually makes their own assets as far as I can tell, instead of just using that same modernist mansion, same outfits, same model presets and premade animations that literally thousands of games have used at this point. It actually makes this feel like a real game, not just low effort shovelware.

I'll admit I got a little worried when I saw some bad ratings, but honestly I have no idea what those people are on about. Some people seem mad about "femdom" when there isn't even any in the game so far (and that wouldn't be reason for a bad rating anyway). If Mist was exactly to your taste and you can't stand something slightly different then beware I guess?

Liked Mist but this one...it's difficult to rate as of now.

First the story and ambiance : It try to build something but the execution feel poor...we must kill someone for someone else for us to live. Well fuck it let's go ! what !?! we lack the resolve...euuh ok...next it's the relation between the prota and the female lead...weeeell how to put it...some femdom mixing with tsundere feel like vibe from the FL, you need sex to live, alright she is good to go, but don't feel like it but it's ok to have sex, make your MIND woman ! you jump on me the first time after i was impaled and now you telling me a handjob and i'm good to go ? i need my daily handjob to live ? it feel like sex scene for the purpose of having sex scene.
Next is the content...alright Mist was good but i feel like the dev is trying to put the exact same mechanics in this one, ok why not. but honestly 0.02 and we got nothing to really enjoy here. boring mini game with clicking on a object to please a blob, ah yes we see the others as blob, ok we got a good explanation about that but it feel lazy to be honest. And we got our sandbow tradition but for once we don't need to click randomly to find something, that's something at least.

For the good point, i like the chara design like i did for the previous game and i am still looking for the next release, i hope we gonna have something more consequent to test and maybe something more fleshy for the characters, in my humble opinion : i don't give a fuck about any of them for now, nothing to giving the feeling of caring about them. the OOOH cryptic hanjobdailygiver witch and a demon/maid who suck me on our first meeting...that's it.

this game goes in the wrong direction compared to "Mist" the story itself is already a pretty bad idea. you play as an orc looking pathetic zombie and have to be fine with forced sex scenes and female domination which is horrible executed. render quality is on the same level as Mist if not even a bit better, everything else remains rather below my expectations. sadly

I hate to do this since the dev is so hardworking and i really enjoyed mist but so far it has been quite underwhelming, like night and day difference from the mist and not in a good way, first lets talk about the premise we are an undead zombie revived by a witch through a ritual now we are tasked to murder her sister for our life, now straight away we have an encounter with her sister which is not used to kill her but to free someone who is later revealed to be the demon/snake maid now the execution setup is cool but it would have worked better if the crowd looked like the crowd and if the executioner was someone else, now the game addresses that we are an undead and could have killed her during it later on but did we have the resolve to do it ? now morality aside i ask why does that matter, we are on borrowed time and well as far as we know her sister is a nobody to us and to live we have to kill her so why don't we ? , now this matter aside lets look at the renders, the environment does look decent but nothing extraordinary and well the lighting is too dark for many renders, the people(humans) are all blob shaped now this has a story reason but putting that aside it just looks kinda lame, and well we have a sex scene straight away to revive us post execution scene, now we basically know nothing about enna and well it just seems super rushed sex for the sake of sex, unfortunately it did not feel sexy at all, as the story progresses we learn later that we are helping demons and we apparently the "good guys" well not really but better than the executioners apparently, although its not clear why. Demons seem to posses humans and grant them wishes and after that they seem to cause harm to everyone else, it seems like we are the bad guys we might as well embrace it and not pretend, now later on we are forced to have sex to live or we die and well we have a date after the minigame which is okay, (kind of annoying) and well we try to make it like hey you dont seem so into this concept, but enna is like no we are mistaken and more forced sex not exactly sexy again we have a hj scene this time and we are kicked out and its shown that she digs her fingernail into her own arm after this now well so she really hates it and its even more depressing, and well the snake demon maid we have a bj scene with her this also straight away and well forced entirely, this was not as bad but again rushed, So tldr story is intriguing but not fun or sexy feels depressing, the blob renders really ruin immersion for the setting even if it has a story reason, the scenes feel forced(literally even) and too early without any connection with the girls i was really excited for the update but unfortunately the setting and story isn't working for me, I will be following the game since the dev is great and maybe the game turns around.
