Here is the changelog from their Patreon posted 5 days ago.

Now a long rant.
TL;DR: 1 New CG and a bunch of stuff no one cares about, again.

I came for the great pixel art, breast expansion, actually good gameplay, and voice acting. Never been a fan of still CGs or what have you but theyre alright, just not cup o' joe. I didn't really care about having a 100% AAA game because well, it's an H-Game, it doesn't need to be perfect. Buuuuuut I ended up not supporting since this has been in development since at least 2014 (oldest post on Patreon) with very little additions to pixel H content within the last few YEARS. Buddy is making $6,582/month with 984 paid supporters. Anon42 does post progress reports and even screenshots of discord messages about bug fixes, patches, etc but well... why are you guys supporting this direction he's taken? I supported and stopped because there were talks of rewriting story shortly after I supported, now I feel as if I just paid to play a demo of a dead game. This guy has literally used every excuse that exists at this point as to why content has been slow or lack luster, then when content does get pushed it's stuff I didn't support and I hope anyone else who currently is realizes who tf cares about recoloring your weapon, or the characters eye colors, or 10th time you've changes how shooting works? I paid for top notch pixel porn game, not a wannabe metroid game leaning more into gameplay then the actual porn aspect. But seriously $6,582/month is what Anon is making as of writing this. Thats more than the average person who works 40hrs/wk brings home to support a family. And you're telling me that the porn game has received 1 new CG sinve v0.47, which came out in April of 2024! 1 Year and 2 months since v0.47, at a rounded down $6,000/month, makes it $84,000. That's the price of everything you see in the v0.48 changelog. Those of you still being paid supporters are absurd to continue supporting this theft.

Agree that new content is added at a disappointingly slow rate but it has added up and now the game is much better than it was in 2014. Do what you want with your 5$, I can't tell if your 5$ is worth this amount of "progress" or not, but one thing is sure: people already called this a Patreon scam literally on page 1 and so with this mindset, there would be no game today.

I can afford to pay Anon42 5$/month even if he creates 1 H-scene/year. If you can't afford it because 5$ is a lot for you and you have to work hard for it, then yes, just cancel your sub and pirate it. I'm happy to pay the 5$ myself so you don't have to, I respect everybody who works. However let's not call others who have the means to spend this 5$ / month "absurd" or "stupid" please man, we're literally allowing you to play it. There are a lot of scam games, and this one is very, very far from one. Slow maybe. Scam definitely not.

Cancelling subscription will do the opposite of what your hope for : imagine your boss saying "My employees are not working fast enough, so let's try to stop paying them for a few months in order to motivate them to work more" - the dev will just look for another regular IT job instead, then realize he earns more than 6500$/month, and never come back to NSFW gaming again.

So yeah features like reworks and recolors are not what I want to see in CPE either, but implementing that takes definitely several months of work, so I agree the dev has wrong priorities, but not that he was lazy. While there is a non-zero chances some excuses have been exaggerated, there is a also a good chance some are not, and then you're basically being extremely rude (within the span of 10 years there will be serious things that happen - at some point I think the dev lost a parent) and complaining is not helping at all - over time the only thing this achieves is that devs leave f95.

Burnouts in the software world are extremely common. Ask yourself why Google or Apple have all these shiny things like swimming pools at work to take care of their developers. Meanwhile other top10 companies like Amazon or Walmart treat their employees like slaves, quite the opposite. And it's not that Google's HR are nicer than Amazon's HRs, it's just that IT has an abysmal burnout rate and companies have realized it's more sustainable to not overwork their devs at the risk of having them work too slow.

The "average person" is not able to do software development. If they are able to, then they should apply for any dev position and they will make more than $6,582/month.

Because yeah if you think 6500$/month can buy a good software developer these days then you're basically 5-10 years late. Not to mention you have a big problem in your calculation, because 6500 $ / month is the gross Patreon revenue so not at all comparable to what the "average person" sees on their payslip: once VAT, social contributions and taxes are deduced, it'll end up a salary of about 3000-4000$ / month, and then you still have to account for the fact regular employees have several vacation weeks included, sick/parental leaves, various kinds of insurances, and no company/administrative work to do. Now you probably still think 3000-4000$ is too high but that's really, reeeally not what the market thinks. Not even talking Google or Apple (25000$/month average). Just google "Unity game developer salary", Ubisoft offer a median salary of ~7000$ / month and those are very average developers (look at the quality of their games => super bugged) and based on the code I've seen of CPE I believe Anon42 could fill that position, so no he isn't making an absurd amount of money with 3000-4000$ / month. In fact if he does work full time then what he earns is quite significantly below market average. You can hate it or think that's unrealistic but the point is the market has decided that IT is a hard job and should get paid a lot more per hour than any other regular job. The dev isn't "milking money" by making a NSFW side-scroller, he has if anything, chosen the hard path by targetting gamers as customers, which view their $ as extremely precious while the rest of IT industry literally begs to throw money at developers. I haven't followed CPE's development enough to comment on its progress, but I can tell you I am a developer and NFSW gaming would be the very last thing I'd try to make money.

The "average person" also has not released a game that was played by 100 000+ people. In fact, had this dev decided to not go for a NSFW side-scroller and publish just a normal game on Steam with as much success as CPE had, there's a good chance he would be a millionaire right now. Instead he worked for free during years to make a game genre that he enjoyed, so that 90% of you would end up pirate it, then still complain that he's making too much money.

I'm surprised that this is still being worked on. I feel like it was being worked on back when i was in my mid teens. I'm 27 now, so i don't know if I'm wrong or the development of this game has just been dragging on and on.

This white knighting is absurd.I believe it's right to support creators too, but you've gotta support the right ones. As a games dev myself, I can tell you that the work in this game could be done within a weeks time at a game jam. in development since 2014? brother, SKYRIM took 6 years to make. you're telling me that this should take longer? the developer has likely taken plenty of trips with your money and done a day's work of "progress" to show that they're "doing something". Someone like Zell, who has made a pixel H game, Forest of Blue Skin, which has over 30+ pixel DOT animations released the game FOR FREE. Only recently did he move onto paid subscription, working on Succubus Affection 1 and 2. This single person, btw, did not just finish the entirety of the DOT animations for the upcoming release of the sequel, but immediately began developing 2 other games on the side with monthly progress and demo releases. That is a person deserving of tips and donations, not this scum.

Okay so I decompiled the game, it has about 100 000 lines of code, split over 5000 files.

You say you can do that in 1 week, so that's 1 new source file written every 2 minutes, and 14 000 lines of code per day - assuming you don't sleep. Now for a human that's unfortunately impossible but maybe I'm talking to an advanced AI - the comical thing is that even then that would probably still be impossible, I did actually try to generate this amount of code with chatGPT and even that wasn't able to reach ~1000 files/day because at this point the compiler wasn't able to process it fast enough.

Oh and I hope you are a crazy good artist too, because I tried to commission animations for CPE, and artists told me a single pixel art animation in this style would take ~1 week of work alone. That's the work for ONE animation made by someone who dedicated their life learning pixel art. You'll need to draw about a hundred for this game, in one week of course. But after that and your 14k lines of code / day, rest assured me and everyone here will happily give you a deserved 5$ / month instead of giving it to Anon42. (Well realistically a few people will still call you a scammer since we're on f95 but don't worry I will be there to write an essay in your defence)

Don't worry, bro. We all know that bad devs are what makes other developers who aren't bad (or as bad) look tainted and have a hard time growing, but in this dev's case, the same thing happened to him as to the idiots on the Lok team who built the game on a terrible base and had to start over from scratch on a different base. Except here, anon42, the dev, unlike them, loved his base even if it was more difficult, and he kept working on it. Only, of course... to avoid problems, he's been reworking the same thing over and over again to make it as good as possible, instead of just creating like crazy, then half-assing what he could, and finishing the project.

Which on one hand is commendable, but on the other, to a certain extent, it's tiring and, to a certain extent, the "easy way" to have a source of work for a while. It remains to be seen if this "path" lasts long and if, after finishing this project at some point, his "followers" move on to the next project. Because at the rate we're going, if it's like this one on a poor foundation, he'd have work for at least another 15 years or more.

Eh... but at least he's not at the level of Tobyfox, who literally takes a lifetime to do it despite creating jewelry... yet.

Ay, I can rejoin their Patreon again.
I hope this game gets finished one day, it's THE gold standard for what a lewdvania should be imo.
Godspeed, Mr. Anon42. You get my money again for a while.
It can never be the gold standard unless it has elements of sex on defeat as well as sex as part of the gameplay loop/plot so that people with kinks on both sides can enjoy the game.

To say a game that very abruptly did away with one for the other is the 'gold standard' would imply that one way is the best way. That's not true, and I'd certainly never call a game in development this long while collecting patreon funds all the while with a development that rocky a 'golden standard' myself.
