I’m a fan (and old supporter) of the game, but part of the reason we’ve reached this point is how many of you will actively defend subpar communication and unfulfilled promises. It’s honestly delusional and prevents actual improvement.
If you really don’t want the project to lose supporters/die, we need to face reality - this is not the first, second, third time he has made delays or promised things he could not fulfill. It’s not just about the update, but that he has a track record of promising some date or time and then disappearing past it. It doesn’t matter whether or not the update eventually came out - he did not keep his word. How are so many people afraid of admitting this?
If you say that an update or post will come in a given time frame, you should update your supporters by the proposed deadline. It doesn’t matter whether “it’s just a couple days, it’s just a week, it’s just 2 weeks late” - you give a date, you follow through or give everyone a notice at the very least. Let’s be real, regardless of how long any delay takes, whether or not you have a job, it does not take hours, days, or weeks to send a post saying “hey, sorry it won’t be coming as promised today due to [whatever reason]. I’ll give another update post by [ date].” There are many developers that need breaks or have delays, and honestly the vast majority of supporters are understanding when you put out the bare minimum of respect by communicating.
Now’s obviously not the best time to add more stress to the situation, but keeping PFFG more professional and accountable only attracts more patrons in the long run, which leads to more incentives and resources to continue. Poor communication paired with routine delays lead to an eventual decline in trust - the only thing that sustains this payment model. Blowing off real concerns only kills the future of the game and actual monetary support. Stop blaming supporters for leaving; blame yourselves for continuously defending behavior that causes supporters to leave.
