I'm guessing he is from Russia, I've tried to look at the files from v0.4.x before and I found some snippets of code comments that are written in the Russian language

The coding was done by the programmer, who might be from Russia, but I don't think Phatsmash (the PFFG artist) is Russian
The devs are still around by the way. They enabled a 70% discount yesterday which can only be enabled by the creator. He is losing a lot of subscriptions if he's stooping to this tactic. "How do you know it's them and not patreon?" I follow around 30 creators and PFFG is the only one who offered a discount.

I just discovered the game and like it so far, however i want to play it from the beginning. does anybody have a version of the game where I can play from the beginning?
It doesn't have a new game button? You can't delete saves from inside the game either? If so, you can manually delete the save file. Normally the save is in the game's folder, which will be wherever you put it. Or it'll be in C: > (your pc username) > AppData > Roaming > RenPy. This RenPy folder is where saves of RenPy games usually are if they're not in the game folder
Or you can just redownload the game from the thread's first post. You don't need someone to link you their game when it's already linked in the first post.
You can find 0.5.4 public in this thread on page 68.
