Hi, is it okay to ask for a little advice here?

I torrented the most recent Japanese repack off the nya site. I'd used a pretty incomplete, shitty English repack in the past and wanted to have more DLC. There were a few instances where the download was interrupted so I was worried something might get corrupted, but I let it keep going until the end anyway. The "_setup" folder did end up corrupted—something in it. I repaired that with winrar and the AIO installer worked because I did, which had been causing trouble before then. But the game itself... is just a totally black screen! Since I don't get any pop-ups nor does it start after a while, I don't know what to do... should I reinstall the whole thing? Maybe get the English version instead? What do you guys think?

So you got the older "korean" repack instead of Custom Maid Ultimate 2024 Edition.
Nobody bothered with testing that version. It should in theory work if you simply unzip that setup folder in there and then run the reg add script.
Things to note:
-install path must be short. Like really short. No weird characters.
-Don't install it in Downloads, MyDocuments, Desktop, ProgramFiles or other restricted folders.
-Right click on the COM3D2(.5) folder and remove the read only attribute.
-Update the game to

That should at least get the game to boot up.
You will be missing a ton of dlc and there's no clear update path from that point even if you have the COM3D2 dlc checker. That is why everyone is using the Custom Maid Ultimate repacks. You just know that *I got this repack and then download everything from this list and I should be up to date with everything*. That's not the case with the korean repack.

One final note: That is likely a COM3D2.5 repack without CM3D2 or KCES. If you don't have KCES linked to COM3D2.5 then there is absolutely no reason to have COM3D2.5 in the first place. You lose a lot of plugin compatibility compared to normal COM3D2.
And this thread is about eng version. You are on the wrong forum to be asking about jap version. Go to ulmf.

Should you get the eng version instead? Sure why not. It's not like it's missing that much content and it's lighter. Get vanilla repack R9 from nyaa and follow instructions. Mod compatibility is the same minus a few exceptions.

I'll probably be downloading the Eng version then, to save myself the trouble. I kind of did notice it was a thread for that, but didn't know where else to ask since I'm not familiar with a lot of the etiquette on this site or nothing. Thank you for the advice!

So I just downloaded this, all 14 parts, got them all extracted and running properly... until I got to the maid creation tutorial. The heck does this mean? Or rather, I can read that it says it can't find a GUI image, but why and how do I fix it?

The game is not is not over 300GB until you add the mod pack from inlolzwetrust (link in his signature). It is in English and uncensored through mods. Keep in mind, basic reading comprehension is required. There is a pretty long installation guide you have to follow.

is 300GB considered too big nowadays for a game? it was 6 years ago... but now? storage is super cheap. An external usb-nvme adapter is always an option. Small nvme drives are dirt cheap. The adapter should have at least an RTL9210 chip and that's way more than good enough. Of course you need at least a usb 3.0 port if you don't have anything newer. A 3.1 usb C port is recommended to reach the max 1000MBps speed.

I would suggest to you all that it is in fact worth it. Look for a download with multiple archives so you can survive a corrupted piece with minor headache. Godspeed gooners

Japanese locale is not required for COM3D2.
-extract with 7zip, not winrar or whatever if you downloaded the R9 torrent. If it's any other version that isn't split into multi volume zips then don't forget to stop seeding because any changes you make to the game folder will be reverted by the torrent client upon restarting and doing hash check. While you are seeding the game folder is basically read only and the game doesn't like that at all.

R9 downloaded and working without flaws. Tried getting custom maid ultimate to work from the Nyaa torrent. It was black screening and came already installed? I'm gonna give it another go. Are the Updatres REQURIED? or can i just install the 2024 ultimate repack with your mod pack as well?

The modpack works with R9 just fine if that's what you want. I made a compatibility patch for eng version.
If you want a complete game then try to get CMU 2024 working and update it with dlc and everything. Read the guide from ulmf.
DLC updates are recommended.
Game update is mandatory for debugging purposes (though the 2.xx branch didn't receive any game breaking changes in quite a while. 3.xx branch is another story). CMI will probably work with it as is.

The i18nEx translation plugin might require a more recent game version. I can't remember at this point.

The most recent Nyaa torrent is 2.39.2 so i'll have to update the jap version to 2.4 and all the updates between 2.4 to 2.44 to then update from 2.44.2 to 3.44.2?

you only need to install 2.44.2. You can't jump to 3.44.2 like that. There's a whole migration process for that and you'll need enough storage to duplicate the existing COM folder and also install KCES.
3.xx.x = COM3D2.5 which is basically a different game

I downloaded this “repack” about a year ago. Obviously it hasn’t been updated for a while, and many DLCs have come out since. I was interested in picking a few of the new ones up (mainly personality packs and expansions) but figure I probably would need an updated game client in order to even use them.

1. Is it possible to update the repack using the EN/JP updater from KISS? Or will this not work properly given that this installation is modified?

2. If I were to pick up any DLC, should it be from the EN or JP store? Does the store where the game beeds to be running (for costume sets, etc.) even work with this installation?

3. Does CMI work with the latest 2.x versions of the game? I know that 3.x has broken a lot of things, but I don’t play 2.5 so not too worried about that version.

0. which repack? The name of the repack determines if it's eng or jap version.

2. the game doesn't care where you install dlc from as long as they are for the correct version.
3. CMI works with latest version. That's the whole point of CMI. It's hard to jump on 3.x by accident so don't worry about it unless you already got a repack that was built on COM3D2.5. Even if you are on 3.x CMI can handle it but some plugins won't work. The purpose of COM3D2.5 is to be used with the KCES editor (a separate app) but there aren't any mods compatible with that new high poly body. So no uncensor either.
