If a number of the $20 subscription buyers are dissatisfied with the story, they should let the author know. The subscribers choose to support his stories as a product. The best course of action is to warn him that subscribers will cancel if he doesn't take them into account. If he loses subscribers, the worst that can happen is that he will retire and blame piracy, much like Y3DF did.
