Hello, I am currently creating my first RPGM game, and I plan to use Koikatsu renders because it’s quicker to work with. However, I’d like your opinion: would you be more inclined to play a game featuring Koikatsu renders or Daz3D?

I rarely play games made with Koikatsu, the story needs to be really good for me to consider them. I have no issue with Honey Select but Koikatsu feels too childish to me. However, if the other option is DAZ I’d definitely recommend choosing that. It’s both more realistic and allows you to sell the games you make with DAZ on Steam, whereas you can’t sell a game made with Koikatsu.

Imo, unless your game is very anime-inspired, Koikatsu comes off looking low effort. If you have a solid story, though it'll probably be fine. HS2 is very capable if you don't want to put in as much effort as Daz.

This! (y)

I don't play RPGM games much but I think Koikatsu is the best choice you have. Daz3D is more suitable for AVNs, if you ask me.

RPGM Dev here.
I think Koikatsu will be better. Cause the RPGM graphics are very colorful and anime oriented (except of you use specific assets). Daz is better for a photorealistic result, but Koikatsu is more suitable for RPGM.

Agreed. Going from RPGM graphics to Daz or HS can be extremely jarring. And you CAN make KK look good. It just takes way more effort to do so than Daz or HS, which look better by default. (Talking lighting and such. Character appearance is subjective and too different to really compare)

But the big difference to be considered CMStoryGames is Steam. With KK or HS, you can't put your game on Steam, but you can with Daz. If Steam is a goal, Daz is your only option.

The important thing to me is unique character designs. Once you play enough daz games, you start recognizing the commonly used models, and it all starts to feel like slop. It's much easier (and cheaper) to make a KK character look unique, even if anime style art is more generic in general.

Thank you all for your answers! Personally, I also think Koikatsu is much better for an RPGM game. However, as DumpTruckLover mentioned, my ultimate goal is to publish the game on Steam or sell it, so I have to go through DAZ Studio!

if they have the skills for it and it's not a cost-cutting decision, they're not restricted to using premade rpgmaker assets.
