So the two reviews are both 5-star but talk about the game's potential. Anyone want to weigh in on whether the potential has panned out?
Following up on my review, I'd say this game in its current state is like a good-looking but unlubricated sex toy.
It looks appealing, and the potential for a good time is there. But lacking the time and finesse to get it ready and ease yourself into the experience, all you feel by the end is chafing and regret.

Are you willing to try out the old version? They are talking about Dearth S [0.0.3c][BugFix.v27]
Which has a lot more content and the gameplay is different there.

I'm a little confused in regards to the combat. How does it work? If I step onto one of the smaller outposts, it's just a quick little fight. But if I step onto a bigger one, I have to repeatedly enter the same square over and over again until one of the characters manages to beat them. Is this supposed to be normal? I've just started, and it feels like I'm doing something wrong.

That's normal, yes. If you level up your characters, you can destroy bases much faster.

im guessing the AI background art isnt placeholder, but itd be neat if it was. i like the charm of the art style/animation, i wouldnt mind simple drawn backgrounds to compliment them

Having played this version, I genuinely cannot get excited for the new versions if this is what we missed out on. Having actual gameplay depth was a nice change of pace, as well as risks when it comes to infiltrating. Not to mention the gacha system gave us 4 rolls instead of the one, which is a lot better imo. I feel like there was a lot of mistakes made by changing so much

Definitely, I think the gameplay in the older version is better since you are actively making the choices, having the Synonyms of your choice to take action. The reason I changed everything is because it was very hard to maintain a proper schedule and it burned out all of my savings, which led to a 6–8 month hiatus as I returned to my job to support myself, not to mention the 4 rolls gacha system that still bugs out after months of tweaking it.

The current version allows me to make more content, and an update atleast twice a month. I'm barely getting any support, and it was voted that I should make more content, and I am still thankful for those who are still supporting me, it helps a lot even if it's just a little.

Anyway, What do you think I should take from the older version that you would like to see in the newer versions? Let me know.

Having just played 0.0.3 and then 0.0.5 I've got some thoughts. And they're too assholeish for a review.
  • I hate the selection screens, combat in .3 and the shop in both. Why can the directional buttons not simply latch on to the next selectable object in their direction? If I'm playing the entire rest of the game with WASD and space I don't want sections where I have to navigate with mouse for no good reason.
  • The combat and .5's "combat" animations are nice. The first twenty times.
  • Mixed feelings on the presence of gacha. Mostly negative feelings. Malware's "premium currency" (they're poorly priced crystal packs before anyone thinks actual premium currency is being sold) screen reinforces these feelings.
  • The lack of a menu of any sort grates on me. It's understandable that the game is designed around saving only at savepoints. But with materials constantly depleting even while stationary I don't see why I can't pause and go do those pesky adult things that come up. It'd be great as an info source too, in .3 you have no idea what a girl's combat potential is until you deploy her...and then you can't undeploy her. Could also tell you material depletion rate along with mine income rate (pretty sure those mines don't do shit and largely serve to confirm that, yes, you did step on that tile and saw the animation). In .5 it could show your inventory and upgrades for battle records.
  • I've got no clue what is going on with battle records. Are we using materials to pump out single use robots that use the records as instructions? .3 did the whole "digging up girls out of ruins" better.
  • If The Alliance is collecting these records then they should have all the info on MC's waifu. There would be no sane reason to keep the two separated if that's the case.
  • .5 left me hungry for some sort of player engagement. Yes, the battles in .3 wore their welcome out, but they gave me something to do that wasn't run around a map and watch animations.
Overall I can feel that the dev is jumping into this planing to make a unique game with an inspired plot. Sadly it comes off as a not very good flash game.

I haven't played .3, but .5 is. . . rough.

1. The health bar for bases don't actually match well with the reality of damages done. One attack would always do 1/2 the bar, regardless of 1 or 2 attacks. This followed for other attacks as well, and the loss of feedback made me wonder at times if I was actually doing anything.

2. The first outpost you can draw things from past the tutorial, when you get to Prime Movement, just. . . didn't activate properly. No idea why.

3. I started loop 2 map 2 to see if there was any improvement in the . . . mostly mind numbing 'combat', the map screen went black. I have a feeling it was just a copy of the map with the revolving END trucks, but I'm not going to play literally blind and unable to collect resources properly.

4. The story feels a bit rough on a narrative cohesion level. Where did the squad mate go? The lieutenant in his first appearance gave me whiplash from how he starts as a hard ass, calls the MC a loser for losing his 'sister' in the war, then acts like he's at least on level with being on level with supply. Next we see him, he's a bumbling fool who doesn't even recognize that the Synonym that owns the land is the person he sent us to meet. And he's sending many of his soldiers to their death over an ego trip as his faction(?) basically counts Synonyms as slaves. Everyone from then on seem to view him as the worst commanding officers they've seen.

The complete run around everyone is giving the MC on his counterpart feels mostly malicious in a mostly unintended way. It makes sense from the Lieutenant post 2nd run in. Everything about how the war was handled feels quite a bit dumber than it should, because why were the pairs split. If it was common, why is the specialist a loser. Why do we not see the Lieutenants Synonym? Why did the specialists get viewed as saviours?

Some of the narrative issues can be solved by simply over viewing the script, or adding more information on why they exist. Side note, I hate the name RECTANGLE, because hearing that she viewed a rectangle sounded more like a joke than setting info at first.

5. The story and combat barely meet on a cognitive level. Okay, we dug out the combat records. That improves our combat, but the actual Synonym that the battle records were from just. . . She lives there and owns the land the lieutenant built his 'RECTANGLE' on. What actually is happening then? Why didn't they just use records and copies of the Synonyms to bulk up the front lines? Is that new tech?

Nice plot and Setting the game have here..

Though yes, the Logic of the game is being Unrealistic right now despite the interesting theme..

But every newly build always can be Evolved and Edited.

Let's see how this game become in the end...
