I don't have any insecurities that I have to get past. I make no judgements on those who activate the content.
Usually, if a Dev dares to introduce this kink into a harem game hell breaks loose and there are people who judge, severely, like it also happened in this thread, and you appear to be none of them.
I just don't fancy sharing my toys.
I do respect your position and get where you come from. I wasn't advocating that every Zaton has to share, but rather open the eyes of some people to the possibility that if he does, it doesn't mean he is a cuck.
My in-game MC is a violent, brutish, arrogant, grapey motherfucker
You forgot to add stingy.
Sharing challenges matters of self-confidence, self-respect and respect with(from?in?of?) your social circle and i believe, dependent on the setting, it can boost or damage those aspects.
In olden times the reputation of a chieftain and the loyalty of his henchmen was often derived not only from his battle prowess and wisdom, but also of his display of generosity. It was expected from him to hand out gifts and to share parts of the loot, be it money, merchandise or captured women. If he failed to acknowledge bravery in battle or the commitment they showed towards him, he could be in trouble soon. Handing out copper coins wouldn't do the trick, but a nice sword, a chainmail or a golden torque (neck band) certainly did.
There is also the widespread tradition of interchanging gifts between guests and host, between partners in commerce and friends. Naturally these gifts need to be valuable to make a positive impact on the relations, being perceived as cheap will rather damage them.
Since women in Desert Stalker are just a little above an ordinary commodity it feels natural to delegate for instance Emilia to please Igor on his visit. It's a sign of Zatons appreciation of their friendship. Double that if he actually assigns Ain to the task, because she is far more valuable than a slave girl. And of course instead loosing Igors respect by doing this, he will certainly gain reputation by displaying such generosity.
Zaton also obviously needs to be a real confident badass to nonchalantly hand out his daughter (temporarily). Like i already said, i consider it a 'power move', a display of his strength and dominance.
Well, it looks like yourZaton doesn't care about being perceived as generous or worries about his reputation and that's pretty confident too. Just taking what you want without regrets is of course the opposite of insecurity.
This rather referred to those people which break out in cold sweat by the mere thought of sharing and are very vocal about their distaste.
I am just happy that the devs give us options. You can tell it is a good game when two players like us, with diametrically opposed opinions on the matter, can equally enjoy the experience.
Double thumbs up for this, i just wish more people had your mindset. Options which aren't shoehorned in to appease a certain demographic, but rather evolve naturally out of the narration lead always to a better game.
To conclude i'd like to remind people there is a difference of what one would do or enjoys in real life and the actions of an ingame character; one doesn't always need to self-insert in every MC.
Just because i destroy a whole home planet with a super star cannon or order the murder of my uncles' pregnant wife, who bears the heir of his title i am supposed to inherit, doesn't mean i fancy those actions in real life.
Cheers,
Kellerman!
