Has anyone tried using this (old) version of the mod with the current version of the game? I will probably do so myself, but I skip a lot of content and so am not the best "tester" for such a thing.
Yeah, I tried it, and it worked fine until I got an error that made Ren'Py crash. The same event, tried several times, and always crashed. It's unstable. I had to reinstall the scripts and delete ModOptions.rpy from the game folder to make the AVN work properly. So, I don't recommend it.

The vast majority of modders do in fact work for free, it is the western visual novel community that has a significant number of people who make money from modding. Significant number in comparison to other video game communities that is. The vast majority of modders are hobbyists and do it for free.
Plus it's a scummy thing to do, riding someone else's coattails to make money. The developer puts in a ton of work on an update, then a modder comes along, does comparatively nothing (a game update can take months while the mod for it takes just a couple days or even hours), and expects to get paid too? F'n parasite behavior tbh.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that. I agree that a lot of modders do relatively little work in comparison to game devs, but there are exceptions to this. There are quite a few modders that put out mods for dozens of games and are active with their updates for those mods. For the majority of modders than I have seen that do have a Patreon/Subscribestar/etc... account, all they are asking for is donations if you like their work. No money requirement. No paywalling content. Just a chance to drop them a donation if you think that their work is worth it.

When it comes to mods for games that I enjoy playing, we're all on a pirate site and should be grateful for the time and effort these devs and modders put into these games.

Money. This mod has a Patreon and SubscriberStar, he is not working for free as it should be. Nobody works for free, and nobody gives their work away. He probably must be working on updating the mod, or like the people are saying, waiting for a full release to keep working on it.
Where is this modders patreon? Can you show me? Or are you just talking out of your ass?
