Hi all Devs....

Sorry to not include other readers, but i'd like to get a feel for what the developers that are currently producing games are running hardware wise on their PC's.
It's not for bragging rights, I would like to know what the devs use so I can see where I still need to improve on if at all. I know my GPU is one part.

My rig is:
AMD Ryzen 2600 CPU
ASUS PRIME X370-PRO AMD AM4
32Gb Team Elite 2400mhz
Sandisk 420 SSD
GTX 1060 6GB

It's not bad i know and way faster than my old rig but still, would love to know what you other devs are using. For instance DocPink, PHilly, Domiek and Icstor etc..

ALso who uses Octane?

At most of time I'm working on 3 computers at once.

Primary my scene developing PC and for rendering big scenes.
Ryzen 2700x
Asus Prime X470
32GB DDR4 ram Team T-force Extreem @4000Mhz
2x 512GB SSD Nvme Samsung 970 Raid 0
1080Ti 11GB Inno3D
Whole is watercooled
The rest is not important

My second rig is old Using it 70% for just rendering and 30% fore developing scenes
Intel core i7 2600K @4.5Ghz
16GB Ram DDR3 Patriot 2400Mhz
SSD Adata 512GB
3x 1080 EVGA 8GB ACX
Standart cooling.

Laptop Dell Vostro for renpy things and editing images, cutscenes and whole things dev needs around developing game.

My experience is that all what you need is powerfull GPU's I didn't see big difference between that old I7 and new Ryzen config in DAZ. Yes Ryzen is little faster at changing viewports, but that old i7 is still enough to do pretty output.

SW I'm using is Daz, image editors and old macromedia Fireworks :D (because I know it good) :D

And rig with what I was started before more than 2 years:
Core i5 6600
12 GB ram
nvidia 1070 8GB
250GB ssd

So I can say whole badge I get from patreon. I was invested to rigs during that time.

WOW dude how do you multi task?

I mean i setup scenes and render on my Ryzen pc
THe old pc is for RenPY coding and Photoshop work etc... Apart from those things setting up a scene takes the most time for me. Of course rendering but that i do in the day whilst im at work.

I know my GPU is lacking for now it will have to do.

Learn to use Remote desktop. Than you can do more task at once really fast. Of course 2 or more monitor is big plus. And QHD monitor is huge plus too, because FHD is not enough for Daz.

My Rig:
AMD Ryzen x1800
MSI Tomahawk B350
64GB Samsung DDR4 2700
Samsung EVO 960 256GB (Boot Drive)
WD Gold 4TB (Storage Drive)
MSI Nvidia GTX1070 Seahawk-x (Replacing with a EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080ti XC Ultra)
EVGA Nvidia GTX1080ti FTW3 Hybrid

Things I would like to add if money permitted:
build a 2nd system for rendering
Threadripper or Epyc based 128GB of Ram 4x Titan RTX's for the 24GB of v-ram in each
10G Ethernet + new Router
4x Ultrastar drives for RAID 10
Asus ROG-SWIFT-PG27UQ (because I want to see renders at there best)

Fudged it again.

Alienware Aurora
i5 8400
24 gig of ram
Nvidia 1050i
1 TB HD

Bought it off the shelf like that but with only 8 gig of ram 6 months ago, I'll pit a 1080 in it in April.

About threadripper and for Daz using is threadripper useless, almost for nothing compared to cheaper CPU's.

So you saying it's not that great an advantage getting a Threadtripper CPU over normal Ryzen one's for instance, for DAZ that is.?

mainly would use threadripper for the 64 PCIE lanes so the GPU's could transfer faster.
Maybe, theoretically. Don't know how it works in other SW, but at Daz doesn't matter if you use GPu in *16 Pci-e or *4Pc-e speed is still the same. So I think other rendering SW will do the same.
Wich means for proper running 4 GPU's in daz you need only 16 Pci-e lines.

Yes you will see no difference. Only if you want to render with CPU. There will be difference of course. But rendering with CPU is problematic in Daz specially.

Not the biggest one no. one of the cheaper ones gives you the 64 PCIE lanes but I would wait for the 3000 Series so future PCIE Gen 4 cards could work at full speed same for regular Ryzen too if you can hold off

On this then... Ive noticed DAZ likes VRAM... so is it best to get a RTX2080 11GB card or 1080Ti 11GB card or use my 1060 6gb card and add another RTX2060 6GB to it?
Price vs speed upgrade?

2080 have only 8 GB so best is still 1080ti or 2080ti nothing between.
And about ram it is not that big issue 32 is pretty standart if you will use more you will just wait more for loading scene but it will work normally.

Sorry yes i meant 2080Ti... I just bought another 32GB ram... so system memory will be 64gb then. So you basically saying rather get one good with 11GB Vram than two cards with lesser Vram?

It depends on other factors. If you can get 2x 1080ti than one 2080ti so get that 2 1080ti. But if you can have 2x 1080 than one 1080ti or 2080ti. You must choose what you will do. 2x 1080 will be more powerfull than one 1080ti and just a little than one 2080ti but have smaller ram so bigger scenes can outrun your Vram and you will must render that scene on your CPU.
So my advice is 2x1080<1080ti<2080ti Best choice for best results is now 2x 1080ti I think.

1080ti and a 2080ti
ryson 7
48 GB
and its too early i cant remember the rest lol.

I am going to be slowly saving up for a new rig now since im about to hit my next goal that i have been striving to hit for the last 6 or so months so in a few more months I want another with 2 2080ti's so i can do my animations at a higher quality but also have it setup with as much ram as possible for out of core rendering in octane, its slower than just on the gpu's but still way damn faster than cpu in iray.

Knobb for DA i did everything from 0.9 on with a 1080ti and a 1060 with 6GB. You will notice a massive improvement with just a single added 1080ti.

I'm just going nuts now and animating tons of stuff so the extra rig will help with that.
