Do people like adult games that are really story driven?

I think many people find it difficult to please in this regard, because everything is absolutely individual. The only way out is to create something by yourself?

I feel compelled to chime in.
"Do people like adult games that are really story driven"
was the OP.
I've been adult gaming since the early 2k's which usually involved Japanese games or the occasional German "Lula" type game. Aside from the grind of the Eushully games, they were all story driven & rather enjoyable. Having to use translation software downgraded the experience. The good folks at Nekohen were kind enough to translate most of those games anyhow & the Hongfire community was great for every other popular game out there.
Those weren't fap-heavy games. They were epicly story driven.
Having said that, the new adult game scene is nice. I think it's possible to do both IF the dev is talented enough.
Not trying to be a schill, but Phillygames manages both.
To answer the OP definitively, I'd go with story. Characters & sweet models do not hurt. Throw in some hot scenes & you've got a fan.

In such cases, would you consider VNs a kind of video games?
As much as I would consider interactive fiction a genre of video game. In order to be a game, one must have a way to lose the game. Not necessarily win, as not all games have victory conditions by default. But your choices have to matter and if your choices can lead to your downfall, then it is a video game. So by that logic, a visual novel is a game so long as you can lose at it - which according to this genre, means a bad ending.

Now kinetic novels I wouldn't consider video games, because there are no choices to be made or at the very least your choices do not matter because every outcome is the same. They're more akin to a book in executable format. Just like how visual novels are akin to a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure novel. A book in and of itself has one ending - the last page. A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure novel on the other hand has multiple outcomes, not all of them good. In a sense they are the precursor to visual novels, as a visual novel will too have multiple outcomes, not all of them good.

So as to provide a synopsis, a visual novel is a game so long as your choices matter. If they don't, or there are no choices to be made, it's a kinetic novel and ergo I do not think it's a game so much as it is a book.

It can't be one without the other, as it isn't porn where the "plot" begins and ends with only heavy driven sex scenes in different angles. It also can't be just plot focused where the only thing penetrating deep is it's meaningful story.

There has to be a mixture of a really well developed storyline that is fresh with top notch rendered sex scenes sprinkled in at the right moments.

Think about games like:

Melody
Acting Lessons
Being A DIK
The Deluca Family
Leap Of Faith
Where The Heart Is
Haley

Each have the perfect mastery of deep meaningful stories sprinkled with enough sex scenes placed at the right moment that compliment the story.

Hopefully you've figured out a workflow schedule that works for you in which all your attention isn't scattered around to meet a deadline. Developers that I follow on Patreon, such as Dr. Pinkie Cake, have a great flow where they focus on different aspects of the game per week.

I really look forward to your work!

the best games on here can achieve both. it's not easy, but it can be done. i mean, the story doesn't necessarily have to be complex, but it needs to be engaging, the characters need to be interesting and their choices realistic.

Ultimately do what you want, if you work on a game idea you don't like chances are you won't last too many updates.
Personally though, I don't care about story, I skim it at best and I do that in pretty much all games, I feel like I've seen it all at this point, nothing is really that surprising anymore. Evil organizations, Demon lords, incest, political intrigue you name it.
So yeah, don't really care for it.

I mean, I don't like most due to all the NTR and rape but the ones I do end up watching/liking actually have good plots. I think a good game can do both or have a method of allowing story based people one path and pure fappers another.

That's difficult, considering today's patron monthly update model. A long and brilliant story-line needs a long introduction (Muv-Luv as an example), and players may not support the development at the early stages.

The Japanese games offer a lot of choices, and then everyone turn to walkthroughs.

"YOU and ME and HER: A Love Story" makes fun on this mindset.

I only play for the story and/or interesting/funny characters. If i just want to stroke the kitty i watch other collections.
But i dont say the art/graphics dont matter. If i dont like the look i dont torture me through a whole story (same goes for all games, not only adult ones), i would always prefer textbased over (in my opinion) bad arts.

If I just wanted sex sex sex, I would simply consume porn. I play erotic games specifically because it allows a level of immersion that is completely non-existent in normal pornography, while still being a visually very involved medium (compared to, say, erotic literature). Therefore, it either needs to have a good story-driven narrative, or to have good gameplay to make it immersive.

IMO the great shame of erotic games (especially Western ones) and even of erotic literature is that too many of the people who produce it these days try to copy normal pornography too much.

Though this isn't directly asked about in the OP, I think another key point is to keep the scale of the game on the smaller side. This can be controversial, but personally I think games should aim to be completed within two years of the first release. Much like my argument in favor of schedules, I think a condensed game is a superior game because it keeps everything tight. I have seen too many games that have meandered for too long. After awhile the story's pacing suffers, and the player begins to lose interest.

There's an added benefit to targeting an end date- it allows you to move on to new projects. Two years doing anything is a long time, and I would rather have a dev who is passionate about their project rather than a dev that is continuing their project too long and has lost their passion.

If you can't tell your story in two years, you need to make changes to your script.

I only like story driven sex game. Without context, you are just watching a porn video like any other. Let's be real, the porn game mechanics are really not that interesting ^.^

LMAO I'll have to check your game out, but based on your username, I doubt I'm your target audience.
Game mechanics are incredibly important unless you're doing a VN & then you don't qualify as a game.

Oof, quite a necro right here :p

If you want to inspect my game for game mechanics, it's way too early, I'm still testing out a lot of stuff before commiting into more meaningful mechanics.
But go ahead anyway, it's always a pleasure to have more players and more feedbacks ^.^

I've necro'd older posts :)
This one is actually relevant.
Weed & boredom may have been a factor.
I'll keep an eye on your title.
As said, doubt it's my thing, but I've played plenty of Fem protagonist games.
I think your reply is an authentic look into the dev side.

I really want my game to be heavily story driven and the important part and have the sex scenes be the second important part. But I don’t know if most people would like it since there just want sex scenes. I may be wrong but I’m not sure
There is a game called a Wife and mother. https://f95zone.to/threads/a-wife-and-mother-v0-115-lust-passion.5944/

It did exactly what you said you wanted to do in your original post. It has 1300 patreons.
