I'm definitely a bit perplexed by some of the Louise treatment -- especially the idea of a woman hiding something unwanted from another man. I can tell you flat out that during prior relationships, I've been in countless situations being hit on or leered at, and at least almost a dozen more serious advances that were up to me to handle on my own. (which I can do just fine) I don't see the point of stressing out or worrying my boyfriend if it's already been handled. Now of course, if something is completely serious and you need real help then yeah...but I don't understand why one would judge this kind of silent treatment so harshly. I think almost every woman I know has hidden from their boyfriends situations with a slimy guy that they talked their way out of, etc. It's just too common and frequent to bother with reporting every time...
I view Louise as quite human and flawed, so it strikes me as realistic in a good way. The fact that she hid an unwanted kiss from her man is actually completely realistic and natural to me, and I absolutely would likely have reacted the same (not saying anything) but yes, doing something different with regards to the unwanted part! I feel like Louise is a real female, and I honestly don't get that very often from developers who tend to write women from a perspective of a male fantasy world than reality more often than not...so kudos from me. Keep going!
The issue lies in the "been handled" part. If the predatory behavior continues (and from her comments in the latest update it
is) and the woman in question doesn't do everything in her power to distance herself, it's obviously not been handled by definition.
And when an otherwise grounded game (dealing with heavy, real stuff like death in the family), goes through impossible hoops to justify said situation
not being handled, it sticks out. It required the signing of an impossible contract with ridiculous clauses from an artist (one of the most freelance professions in society), who didn't even bother to read it. And even if we accept that such a contract can happen, there is no way it wouldn't be void over sexual harassment charges, if the setting mirrors modern western society even a little. Fearing for her life because he is a lunatic or possible mob connections, are the only things that could justify her reluctance in a realistic way but she doesn't know any of that.
I get that dev wants to keep the creep around because he's obviously the villain of the story and part of the murder mystery. It's just the way they go about it that feels tacky to me and hurts the wife character.
Okay, we get it, you don't like Louise, the game, the idea that contracts have penalty clauses written into them. Move on my friend, there are plenty of other VN's on this site for you to enjoy.
Thank you for trying the VN, As I've said it's not for everyone. Maybe a future update will grab you. maybe not.
The part about penalty clauses...reductionism and you know it.
There are things I like (mystery, the black cop as the only capable dude, loopy insanity details in scenes) and things I dislike (how you write the two main characters). I can still enjoy a game detached from its MCs. You should want discussion about your game even if you don't agree with the feedback. Nobody talks about games no one gives a shit about.
