I just deleted the whole folder ( skirmisher-elena-story-release ) and the game reset.

Works fine for me. If you change the name then it does not remain txt for sure. If it remains txt then you haven't changed the name, simple as that.

I changed the file extension but the game doesn't recognize it at all. I can confirm that the file extension is no longer the .txt.

and very sad that games like this are buried under a mountain of VN garbage and dlsite slop.
a wish there was a way to filter threads with VN, RPGM, Ren'py and etc.
