Quickly made a crack that bypasses the log in at the beginning but didnt test further please let me know if there are issues:

Extract the archive file in
Eric Dick-0_3_96-windows\resources and overwrite the app.asar file or rename the app.asar to keep it as a backup and then extract the app.asar from the archive

Does anyone know how long the game has been in developement? it seems to be pretty well made so i doubt that this is the initial release but it would be interesting to know how much content the game has and how much time has been put into developing it

I wish I could select my save file. The save your game doesn't seem to save where I left off at and where exactly does it save the game file? I looked in Users Location where most game saves go at times but didn't see it listed.

Just ditch the minigames. They add nothing to the story, and aren't the least challenging.

I am honestly unsure about this game. My AV scanners came back clean, but digging around on VT & HA it came back with some weird things. The %TEMP% exe seems sus to me. Anyone with more knowledge can confirm if it's a virus or false positive?

The story, the character designs, and the UI has me interested.

However these minigames really are pointless lol

They don't add anything other than tedium. I get that you want some variety in your game, but so far all they do is just pad the run time and don't look that great when in action.

Agreed i think the Dev Spend at least half of the Production time on Useless Minigame instead of Developing on Story ,art or animation ,this project started 2024.

Following up on this: the good news is, staff has reviewed it and found no immediate evidence of a virus or malware. The bad news is, yeah this is really suspicious behavior. Recommendation is, play it in a VM or sandbox with blocked internet. That should keep you safe from whatever the game is attempting to do, whether it's harmless or not. For more info visit the malware thread.

It looks like that is normal behaviour of the engine that was used. It is called GDevelop and here is the process tree of another game:

It is not unusual that games extract stuff to the temp folder but always run games in sandboxed instance just to have a extra layer protection.

Edit: I quickly went through ghidra and there is only one reference to get the temp path and it looks like it is used for V8 JavaScript engine heap serialization. It is basically extracting an embedded resource to the temp folder.

Edit: I only checked the 3.96 version but they had the same behavior so I assume nothing malicious.

It's not unusual for programs to use the temp folder for temporary file storage during extraction or as working space, no. It's more unusual for a program (especially a pretty lightweight game that doesn't even install itself) to extract an .EXE to the temp folder and attempt to run it from there. There are very few good reasons for any app to do this.

But I agree. Running this or any other game downloaded from unknown sources (i.e., most everything on F95) in a sandbox or VM is a smart move in general, and especially smart when the game behaves (innocently or not) in some of the same suspicious ways as malware.
