I mean just because it's default marketing boilerplate in the original language doesn't necessarily mean it didn't *also* ring as hollow and formulaic to that audience...

Why do people think descriptions like that are a good idea? Like first off, people aren't just going to take your word for it. Secondly, you just invite harsher criticism.
when i see a description like this i usually take it as them stating their goal. the goal is to have a rich story. because as we all know, that's not usually the goal for an h game. therefore the creator should absolutely state that fact. there are some h games that i go back and play for their stories, and a good story can vastly improve an already good h game. after all, once the fapping's done, what's left? if nothing, you'll just delete the game and never come back. but if the story's good, you'll find yourself keeping the game and replaying it again later.

No offense, but none of that makes sense. If you haven't, you should probably read the first page of this thread. A lot of people have explained why this isn't a good idea. It should have been very clear from the 2nd and 3rd sentence that the game is meant to have a serious story. The problem with saying that you have a story with all these things is that it implies that you don't know how to describe these things. And if you can't even describe your story in the summary or description, how can I believe that it's worth reading? It comes off as amateurish and lazy.

"Show don't tell" is very much in effect in sales blurbs like this for the simple reason those are a front-and-center display of the author's writing skill.

Or lack thereof, as the case may be.
