I actually found out about it on YouTube through AdultGameReviews. The reviewer seemed to really enjoy it so I dloaded it and literally sat on it for months in my "queue". Same with Once. After playing through every scenario I could find when I finally played Eternum (one route on my PC and separate on my phone) I was hooked. Since it had been a bit since the update I decided to try Once in a Lifetime and was unimpressed with the graphics on my phone at least. It wasn't until I progressed further that I started liking the way they were modeled. Now I'm addicted. I've gone through several routes and still have yet to do all.
That's how I play though; I'll only mod as a last resort. I try to finish with as many routes as possible and in Eternum when I did the babysitter route and hit the lewd scene in the elevator my jaw literally dropped. That was by far one of the best I've ever seen.
Of course Lauren/Judie are nothing to scoff at either. While I'd love to Patreon $50 to Cari (he definitely deserves it) I can't. I am considering dropping one of my others which Cari will get immediately.

Crazy? Definitely.
Accurate? Eh, that remains to be seen (only got two theories correct so far, and one of them is like a popular community theory (NPCs being dead people) while the other is something I discarded until Cari said "lol no you were actually right on that one" (Thanatos being a dead man walking)).
