Let me stop you right there, chief.

Artlist is a *publisher* that will work to *prevent* him from using their music in his work. According to 17 USC, he's got to go to court to defend against what they see and a judge has to decide if it's an infringement.

My point here is that they can work to prevent the use of their work but that doesn't automatically mean it's an infringement. And don't get me started on the DMCA and how that works to try to close down any use a publisher deems is against theirs.

Still, your concern is valid and we should look at this situation a bit closer and see how they work and what's their licensing arrangement right along with what Caribdawg is doing when these song uses are pretty banger and he might not be aware of how he's playing with fire.

Don't sweat it too much. What might ever be removed in the future can always be brought back... been there, done that. Otherwise there's no AVN dev team that's going to go through the legal costs against a publisher, they'll just comply with demands and pull whatever is requested. There's no AVN dev team on the planet that's rat-holed the 6-digit figures required to even be in contention for seriously fighting a license agreement or terms of use via an appropriate and competent legal team.

The VN itself is already a walking copyright infringement (i.e. uses renders from a game whose developer/publisher states that doing so is considered copyright infringement, uses assets from other games for use in certain scenes) so either Cari just doesn't give a fuck or he does but he's banking on the fact that the game isn't "sold on Steam" levels of popular and is thus flying under the radar of litigious license holders.

Man I love this game so much, Alex is top tier. I really hope the next chapter isnt some bs that makes her not work with the group anymore and you need to spend the next 2 chapters just getting her back. Shes had great progression so far and it would be a shame to toss it aside.

Caribdis takes inspiration from a lot of things, that being one of them.
But in the later scenes, just like his last game, the MC becomes a lot more dominant.

Of course you may disagree with that.
Also MC being a "creep" is almost synonymous with the entire medium of adult games, it jumpstarts a lot of scenes. Technically you could call Nancy (the girls' mother) more of a creep than him for going after the MC. His traits could even be categorized as just horny hormonal teenager.

If you can't get past it than it is what it is, I just can't agree on the insight that the MC acts like a pathetic loser, especially considering the characters in a multitude of other games that I actually would consider that trait.

I think that you have hit on the exact reason that there hasn't been an issue yet, because it's not on steam. The only reason I brought it up is because of the youtube post that might bring attention to the game using the song. I know for a fact that other Devs who were on steam and used Artlist during the time that Artlist added it's anti-porn clause, had a shit storm of issues and had to rework quite a bit of their music and get licenses directly from the artists before he could go back up on steam.

My personal theory on the matter is that the "heads" Idriel has been referring to are the many incarnations of whatever soul is inside Orion, all of which have failed one way or another to help the dead because they chose to live their own lives instead or have done something that fucks up their chances in helping them. This is working under the assumption that Orion himself and his soul are two entirely different personalities, which is a callback to the antagonist of Cari's past game where the MC's father and the main antagonist (which is residing inside the MC's father's body) have differing personalities that switch when certain conditions are met (implying that it's possible that the "body" and the "soul" do not share the same personalities). So given that, it wouldn't be a surprise for Idriel to be a bit more "friendly" towards Orion, given that she probably sees him as a different person to the other incarnations.

...Or maybe the 100 percent compatibility implies that for the first time the soul and the body are actually synched so much that Orion's personality basically reflects his soul. And assuming the "Idriel is Anima and Orion's soul is the Eldari" theory is correct, maybe that's why she trusts this particular incarnation more? I dunno, just throwing darts regarding that one.
