If you think you'll get much constructive feedback you'll be sadly mistaken. When I started developing for this game and on this site I had no idea how badly the "new generation" of gamers have devolved. 90% or more of the players on this site "download and ditch" and contribute nothing. They only post if they run into a problem or have a question. Even then, they are super lazy and don't even bother to research the problem or question in any way. They just expect a personalized answer and can't be bothered to lift a finger to help themselves. The answer to their question is often a few posts above their own and they are unwilling to read anything. They also can't be bothered to use the 'Search' feature (too much effort it seems).
Even simple problems cause most players to give up. They throw their hands up in the air and cry foul, complaining in the forum. This is what shocked me the most. The new generation of players (in general, not all) have no problem solving skills whatsoever. Even if they did, they are too lazy to use them. I'm not joking.
I grew up with gaming in the 80s to early 2000s. The Internet is a fairly new invention (at least for global use). Before the Internet became popular in the mid to late 90s, players couldn't log into the Internet and look for an answer. They had to solve the problem on their own. This taught players good problem solving skills which are severely lacking in today's generation of gamers. Modern technology has made the new generation very lazy in general. They also feel entitled and demand things.
Good luck but this is largely why I left. I was totally disgusted with the community on this site. We all get to choose how we spend our time. I made no money from the game and donated a lot of my time but I won't do it any longer for this new generation of players. I was totally and completely disgusted with what I saw.
This is why 'Visual Novels' are so popular on this site and take all of the top spots. As long as you can click a mouse or hit the spacebar you can play it. No effort is required. Players want to be entertained and not think too much. Visual novels are nearly 100% pure entertainment (like watching a show or film), you just have to click the mouse or spacebar to advance to the next scene. I believe this game was released towards the end of 2019 and it only has 16 reviews. If I developed a visual novel (even a bad one) I'd have more than that number in less than a month. The proof is in the facts...
I'm not trying to discourage you from developing this game. Do what your heart desires and enjoy life! I'm just warning you that you won't get much feedback from the community unless it is negative (players love to complain and most are very slow to praise if at all).
There have been a select few on this site that have been wonderful! Thank you for all of your support! You know who you are.
As someone who mostly plays virtual novels i completely disagree with almost everything you said. I'm sure it is easy to blame the lack of popularity on the viewers then admit that the game is not as good as the others. I enjoy virtual novels more then this game because the story is usually better. Not that this game sucks or anything, it does gets repetitive quick.
Here is a list of reasons why this game isn't doing as well as virtual novels imo. Its in no particular order.
- Uses porn images( can feel cheap, some of us seen those porn before and A bit random at times)
- Other games have great art.
- The grind ( Grind isn't the same as making you think, its tedious)
- The interface is not clean or appealing to look at.
- Competition ( many options to choose from.
- Bugs bugs and more bugs.
- Lack of content (for a 12gb game it can get repetitive).
- "Even simple problems cause most players to give up" It's a porn game not Elden ring ( Most just wanna fap)
"They also can't be bothered to use the 'Search' feature (too much effort it seems)."
- IMO: if you have to keep searching the web for help on a game its a failure of game design.
NOBODY WANTS TO BE FRUSTRATED WITH A PORN GAME lol
Some positives that i love about this game
+ Doing evil for the lolz
+ Good sex system
+ easy to understand (mostly)
+ easy access to porn images
+ Interacting with Npc's
I agree that this generations is lazier but that's the point of technology, i don't get this argument. Almost everyone from previous generations wanted the next generation to have it better and easier then they did. Why complain when they do? I sort of agree with that most players don't wanna think too much but then again its a PORN GAME. Its suppose to make me horny and keep me entertained Imo. Also, i disagree with the praising comments. Idk about Evil 2 specifically but most creators focus on the negative comments over the positive ones. If the game is good people will praise it, its that simple. Go look at the popular games that are not VN's and go straight to the comments and you will find out that good games are praised frequently.
My favorite game is summertime saga. The story is better, the sex scenes imo are better, better game play and it feels more polished. it has its puzzles and moments were you have use your brain. Summertime saga isn't a virtual novel yet its done extremely well. another game that balances good game-play with its porn is Treasure of Nadia.
I keep coming back to Evil 2 because i can role-pay as an evil asshole in the game and not a lot of games go as far as Evil 2.
"you won't get much feedback from the community unless it is negative (players love to complain and most are very slow to praise if at all)." Are you looking for mindless praise? Negative comments and complaints always came with the territory. Every player is entitled to their opinion just like you, its seems to be a problem only if its negative. Too Many content creators have this mentality.
"I made no money from the game and donated a lot of my time but I won't do it any longer for this new generation of players." Thanks much appreciated (i still love the game), but if you really wanted the money you should've just went with a VN.
I think you don't know your audience well and the post seemed bitter. Your explanation seem biased as it completely remove blame from you and placed it on the audience. Your creating content for us( Gamers, not the other way around). Anyway those are my two cents.
