Wolf RPG - Completed - Explorer Of Yggdrasil [v1.01] [Black Train / Kagura Games]

Right from the start i'm not gonna waste your time, the game is good
as we all know WOLF rpg games are some of the best h-rpgmaker games there are and this is no exception

The game has really good art and scenes, as well as a good amount of really well done animations BUT it does have some flaws

especially the gameplay, main reason being that you need either a lot of grind OR just get use to the shield guard mechanics which is basically pressing a button at the right time to deny damage. This means you mitigate 70% of damage from every attack which along with healing makes every fight easy, skipping that boring grind, but at the cost of feeling like you are playing hentai DDR


TL;DR: play the game because the art is really good but might get annoying if not use to rythm games/fast reactions

Decent game with decent cg and animations, but it gets boring pretty quickly since it have a very repetitive gameplay that its a bit hard at the beggining and then you can win the final boss without shield and without healing, even if you didn't grind to much.

You have diferent monsters but the only diference is they drop diferent weapons and diferent rape scene (and I didn't use that feature cuz it was a time waste)
The story looks interesting at the beggining but then... just not
The fact that Mei lost his memory add nothing to the game

Aaaand you can't change nothing to the story, even if you never get raped or never drink the potions, the dialog will still mention that you are getting raped all the time and the potions are afecting you. Wich is fine for me but some people want more control over the story

Another great title from Black Train, very similar to previous games.

In terms of H-Content, there is 35 scenes and 7 different outfits. All the girls in this game are drawn in the same style. The art is top notch imo, but one thing to note is all girls in Black Train games are mega masochist sluts from the start. If you're looking for any kind of corruption you won't find any here. The scenes are all very reasonable to unlock and only require things like reaching a certain point in the 3 hour main story or equipping an outfit. There is a journal that documents all the H scenes with tips, and the journal also documents all monsters and weapons you have come across, very handy. Also one thing thats worth mentioning is I really appreciate that the scenes, even though they focus on one position, contain 5-8~ variations of the CG to make the scene more animated. Changing mouth shape, moving the body a bit, changing facial expression, etc. I hate when games stick to a single image for 100 lines of dialog then paint over it in white for the last frame, real exciting.

Most scenes in this game are about you the MC spying on the main girl as she goes around banging various people (4 scenes also with gyaru merchant, 3 scenes with evil girl). She finds out later and doesn't mind. You think watching this girl get banged sounds like netorare, but it really aint. Shes just a slut and the MC knows that and everyone knows that lol, so the spying aspect doesn't really matter and seems like more of how the devs wanted to explain the scenes.

The combat is simple, but serviceable. I enjoy the simple combat as many games have awful combat that make me want to quit. Its a unique set up that is relatively fun. You take turns hitting each other based on your bar that fills depending on your speed (Agility). If you want to BREAK the game, put your lewd points into Agi, its ridiculous. On the final boss I went so fast I smacked the boss down before their speed bar even started filling.

The OST is great. I loved the tracks and they really fit the game and scenes well. Sometimes I couldn't even focus on the H content because I was boppin to the beat.

The story was not amazing, but I found it enjoyable. I liked all of the characters, but the plot was relatively short.

In terms of translation, its Kagura Games, yay! They always do a fantastic job.

Just all together I think its a 5/5 package because it does a lot great, is really polished, and does nothing awful. Great H-Content, great interface, fun (but simple) combat, good music picks, and a story that ties it all together well. Pick it up if you want a fun 3 hour game and like the art style.

TL;DR Game looks very good, but has some flaws that make you bored very quick. Worth it if you've got an hour or two to sink into gathering the scenes and not a whole lot else.

Explorer of Yggdrasil is a fairly well put-together game. No obvious gamebreaking bugs, no way that I could find to softlock it, free saving if you're so inclined to save scum, and very nice looking art. Also, the translation - as is per usual, from Kagura - is fantastic. No arched eyebrows for any reason beyond the absurd content that you come here for.
Hell, even the interface is custom - none of the stock RPGM interfaces you run into all too often.
The game has the turn-based combat system you expect, with the odd twist in that you can consistently put yourself at an advantage in exchange for a little more time, and the repetition of a pixel animation. However, past that, It's very, very stale. Nothing new comes into the mix to force you to play differently, or even try new things to remain effective against the bad guys. You kinda just find one thing and stick to it, into the post-final-boss area. As far as a combat loop goes, the game has one, but again, it doesn't ever change. The only thing that changes between enemies is weapon types, and sprites. Otherwise, they all smack you the same way.

As far as the H-scene content goes, it's pretty good. Follows the standard formula that has been tested by Black Train in previous titles they have released, so if you're at all familiar with that, this game should come as a welcome addition to your library. The game took be about 3 and a half hours to beat, top to bottom, no pauses, and I was hunting for story. Given those times, you can probably break it down in under an hour if you choose to skip all of the story and the cutscenes - which you retain access to in a gallery accessible through your pause menu. Very handy, pun intended.

The story is... eh. It tries to pull at your heartstrings, but it's very difficult to put yourself into a headspace to care about characters which have very little substance behind them to begin with, ultimately wrecking any attempts you have at suspending disbelief with regards to the story - or if you make it that far, barring the plentiful cases of simply not caring for story. I won't describe it here, but you've probably heard something a lot like it before if you've spent any amount of time on the Zone.

Ultimately, I just found myself getting tired around the 2 and a half hour mark. The story wasn't engaging, I'd fought well over three hundred enemies at this point with no changes to the battles between any of them, and it became less about trying to explore the story and more about finishing the game so that I could say I finished it.

I feel like i overhyped myself for this game but the combat system wouldve been better if rng weapon drops weren't a thing.

Maybe I am missing something because the game was actually quite short, about 2:30 hours, but I had so much gold at the end and literally nothing to spend it on.

Good scenes and art as always from black train, and honestly the voice acting is 10/10.

Very polished and it is definetley worth a play through.

I really wanted to like this game, but somehow I just couldn't bring myself to keep playing. It is just missing some key element of game design that makes a game fun.

Positives
* Very high level of polish. This is a professionally made game.
* Images and CGI are top notch.
* Game is long. I didn't finish it, but I played for a long while and didn't get to the end.
* There is something clever with this alternative mage character being occasionally playable at night, but best I can tell, you can only add an extra rape to make that work.

Negatives
* The game is very repetitive. You have new scenes, new monsters, but it doesn't feel like a new level. They all do the same thing and you always attack the same way.
* The game is very linear. I didn't feel like I had any choices other than how long I wanted to spend grinding.
* There are different classes you can swap between, but they feel too similar to matter.
* The p8rn scenes seem like the very standard batch from every game.

Pretty short game. For that file size I was expecting it to be much more substantial, but that's the quality of the art I guess. Wasn't bad; was just hoping for more after the severe drought.

Would take about a couple of hours if you skip through only the sex scenes. Maybe three if you properly read through everything. Unlocking the scenes is pretty straightforward; even gameplay-wise, there's not much exploring to be done despite the title.

Actual gameplay is fairly involved, with a different yet simple approach to combat. The weapons system is a nice mechanic that can provide more metric for those who like collecting, but can also enforce unnecessary grinding for a good weapon. Speaking of grinding; the lewdness mechanic is the fastest way to increase your stats, as leveling doesn't give you shit, so you pretty much have to grind the events as well.

Combat isn't too hard, and there's actually a way to Demon Bell the game a few notches. Just be sure to remember turn it down before the final boss; stacking defense to the 240s and blocking with the best heavy shield in the game meant shit against her second form at highest difficulty.

Also, pumping agility up makes everything a joke since you can kill enemies before they even get a turn. 280s seemed plenty. Pump the rest into attack. Then go ninja and dice shit up.

Overall a good game; enough to have a spank if your antsy. Less a star because I just feel it could've been so much more.
