Tool Others F95Checker [WillyJL]

Hi WillyJL - I don't know if it is mentioned here before (tried search but couldn't find anything), so sorry if it was already... but I just today updated my Windows 10 to 11 and now when I start your F95Checker I got "no" Taskbar Symbol anymore, just some strange "Standard"? Symbol - I upload an Image and marked your Tool in a red Square. View attachment 4877299 Is this a known Win11 Problem or is there any fix for this?

I did add your Tool to the list of "Games"and after refreshing it, the "original" Task-Symbol was there - "but" - after closing it and start F95Checker again, the Symbol is gone again like shown above, even if I refresh/search for updates.
Really strange that it's not there all the Time after starting F95Checker.
I hope you can understand my explanation and know a solution for it.

This is most likely a corrupted Windows Icon Cache. Try the following:
1. Navigate in File Explorer to C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows , then right click on Explorer window and select Open in Terminal

2. Kill the Windows Explorer process (this will make the Desktop disappear and you will have to reboot to get it back)

NOTE: You many need to right click on Windows Explorer and then select 'Go to details' then right click on the explorer.exe to kill this process (don't just restart).

3. In the terminal type del iconcache* then when done type shutdown /r (computer will reboot).

Either I did something wrong (but I did everything you mentioned in your Post) or it didn't help in my case... the Icon for F95Checker is still not showing up correctly (still that Icon of my Screenshot only showing) in the Taskbar after the restart.

Yep, got that Folder and all the Icons are showing like on your Screenshot, but still after starting the F95Checker.exe it's the usual blank Icon.
I might try and create a Shortcut File and try loading it with that.

Edit:
After creating the Shortcut for F95Checker.exe - it strangely now shows up as it should - the Icon is there now! LOL

I know you already fixed it, but next time you may need to reinstall f95checker. a lot of applications don't work right after upgrading Windows OS. My 7 cents worth.

quick question: anyone actively using ASTC compression? from my experience, hardware support just isnt there, so ive been using BC7, and im debating whether to include ASTC in the C rewrite. but if someone's using it ill definitely include it. (im still months away from getting to the point where the C rewrite is reading and saving compressed textures, but im planning ahead)

Yup, that's what I'm doing currently but with 1400 games, one week's worth of updates still takes a couple of minutes Was just wondering if there was a faster way, eitherway, that's really my only wish for future updates along with a less ressource intensive version for the BG mode. Thaks for your work man.

You probably already got this taken care of. If not, there is a quicker way to do it. But it will mark all the updated games as not installed.

First, do like Willy said, in List mode, click on one of the update markers so it filters by the update marker being visible.
Then Ctrl+A to select all. Right-click, and move to a new tab, name it "clear" or something. (so you don't mess up all the rest of the games.)

Once you have moved it, click on the new tab, right-click, and select Checkbox for installed. (This will clear them all.) Then immediately click the X to clear the checkbox.

Not I I found any compression to slow as the black has to update when I change tabs and end up using more memory overall. Now how close do you think you are before your rewrite in C is considered to be in a usable testable form?

this is very insightful and i think i understand the issue, thanks.
on windows, there is a function called "startfile" that will launch any exe, file, or else, with the appropriate application. its what happens when you double click on files in explorer and when you open from start menu. however, i was not passing a custom working directory to it, which means it uses the same working directory as the checker, in your case C:\WINDOWS\system32 (guessing because you launched it from explorer). i should be able to pass the parent folder of the exe as the working directory, which in your case would be C:\HHS.

EDIT: latest beta will have this fix.

I have to launch it locally (on my boot drive, not on any other) and directly from the .exe or I get the same behavior.

EDIT: BTW, happens with latest version as well

The option "Refresh if archived" is disabled and i use astc compression with "Compress Replace" disabled.

It does, that is the number in parenthesis after the score.

Eg using Add Filter, we can filter for Score, but cant filter for number of reviews.

you can enable weighed score in the manage section, which factors the amount of reviews when using the score for sorting, which im guessing is somewhat your objective (separating very few very high scores from very many somewhat high scores). but to answer your question directly, no thats not possible currently

yeah currently it refreshes anyway if image is missing, it considers a missing image as an "incomplete entry" of sorts for that game so it just forces a refresh to fetch the image. i'll consider changing this behavior so it respects the "refresh if x" settings
