I have been trying this game for a week or so now and is dawning on me that it feels, dishonest.
Premise, I like games using real stuff, as an alternative to 2D and 3D, why? Especially when I could just watch it online? Because with a game you get the potential to create a crescendo to a climax, to build on top of that and to strengthen the character's relations, to have some (sexual) tension, fetishes such as voyeurism or aprons, can work better in a game with a character you already got to know for instance.
Now, back to the initial sentence, why is this dishonest? Because it feels like the content relies on real stuff to avoid being creative, a good game implementing real porn would not just download albums and be done with it, if we look at "A spell for all" or even "Unfaithful" to a lesser degree, there is an effort to contextualize the content.
You are not gonna enter an office and see a character dressed in a bathsuit and change clothes randomly in-between the dialogue, because that would break the immersion.
If someone is told to be undress she undresses in the image, if she is said to be a proper girl she is not gonna look like a seductive succubus in her portrait unless she is teasing.
What you make up with having content done for you you have to by keeping the context in mind, so again looking at "A spell for all" we have, 1) Photoshop to show when someone is possessed, and to put girls in a different scene 2) using or reframing images that will keep the protagonist's look very vague because the same actress is going to be inevitably coupled with different actors and that could break the immersion. 2) Writing, spell uses images and sometimes light gifs but what it misses in action is with writing that it tries to fill up the gaps, a compromise that should be crowned by our imagination given we can "believe" in what's happening.
Unfortunately Family Life has very little writing, I could understand having maybe to grind a bit points with characters, but since there is only speak and flirt, you never know if you are going to initiate a conversation leading to another even or just points grinding.
Unfortunately it has gotten very late in Europe, but I could go on and on, like with the UI feeling very incomplete and forcing you to rely on walkthrough which makes the game feel like a waiting game, never knowing where to find people, being also tied not just to relationpoints but the ingame days that have gone bye and being forced to progress with one character to go ahead with another.
