Ah thanks Astrel so....they're admitting that reasons for no progress is:
  • They keep adding more unplanned things to the game which causes more debugging to be needed or everything just is breaking.
  • They lose concentration/motivation to work on it for too long.
  • They're lazy.
If so then really the reason is feature/scope creep since it can add so many things that make even basic stuff start to not work due to the game initially not being built for it. As a result of that you end up either spending a lot of time making it work or restart development so it works all smoothly but that also can take a lot of time depending on how far through the development they are.
The knock on effects from that though is motivation/passion starts to run dry and you start to avoid the project even subconsciously if bad enough.

The need to release the game would usually limit how bad feature/scope creep can get but in this case they answer to no one but themselves and money is just flowing in. So as Nobis19 said so nothing is stopping them since they haven't realized this themselves or if they have, they have no reason to change as they've gotten lazy and aren't doing anything to change it nor hiding it anymore because money.

This is....true. The thing is, Likkez doesn't demand Patreon money. It's all voluntary, want to support him? Pledge! No? He will release whatever he is cooking down there anyway in the same timeframe. It's more of a "Ah, Likkez you are a cool guy, let me give you 10$ because I like what you are doing" type of thing. As long as i can remember, starting from 2021 he had the same amount of Patrons (around 250) and they are not complaining much because they pay 3$ a month for a guy that makes content they just like, and they want him to continue. My point is, he doesn't make tens of thousand of dollars from pledgers and doesn't hide releases behind pay walls, his patreon is a "support me if you want" kind of thing. That said, even if he works slow, and has not so much to show, it's his own thing and i don't think he will speed up or abandon the thing depending on number of Patrons, he does it for...ehm...community maybe?

Doesn't mean the other side of the coin is any less valid however as of the Patreons he has currently have how many could have forgotten about their subscription to him or are hopefuls that are waiting out for the light at the end of the tunnel that may never come or those that just have money to chuck at a project that takes their interest currently. Also just because someone isn't making a ton of money nor hiding releases behind paywalls they can't be taking advantage of other's by `milking` an topic for a steady flow of cash.

Again I've been silently watching this thread and game for 2 years and I struggle to see the life of progress that's in any game that has ended up getting progress done to it at some point. Meanwhile it shows the same signs of nothingness progress wise like many others I've seen and after a while of observing, abandoned waiting/hoping for it to change.

PS I don't know why but I have ended up writing this massive essay so appologies for it, especially if I've misunderstood what you've written to be agreeing with what I've said instead of disagreeing maybe slightly unconfidently?

Valid arguments but i don't get the "forgotten" subscription thing, i mean if you don't visit Patreon site or app regularly you at least sometimes check your bank accounts. My point is, i don't think his Patrons forgot about the subscription and most of them are active discord users.
And yes, they support him because they want the project to prosper and to be finished but for the past few years nothing has been released. Does it mean that likkez is in the wrong here? Here comes the part where the personal feelings and community engagement comes. Most, if not every Patron he has is a Discord member or is following him on discord, they know what he is doing, they ask about it, they even help him (like his oldest Patron). The point is, his subs know what's going on and they are willing to wait. There could be some people that just subscribed seeing his content for the first time, and unsubbing after one month because no more content is being released. In the end, his Patrons are mostly most loyal followers and community friends, or even Half-Life porn enjoyers. I can't talk for all of them, but as I have seen, they do not care where the money goes, or what he does with it. As long as at least he confirms something's going on with the game.
We will see how much work has he done when the release of a build comes, maybe this half a year (i hope)
