This colleague is absolutely right!
The translation has some small errors, but most of them are due to changing the gender of the words in relation to the character they refer to!
And sometimes it is also necessary to change the location of the variables (for example, Landlady), so that the translation makes sense!
Here I will continue the translation into Portuguese, although it is Brazilian Portuguese, but since I deal with many Brazilians, I am quite familiar with some expressions they use!
Let me just give you a piece of advice about changing genders in translation!
I don't know what mechanism you use to translate, but it seems reasonably good to me!
It gives me the feeling that you are translating statement by statement, which is probably not the best way to do it!
It is a good idea to show the machine what gender the character you want to translate is, and to do this, either insert longer texts in a succession, or make up some dialogues in the middle that you will later delete, just so that the machine understands!
For example, on Google Translator if you insert "Joyce "I'm so tired, actually."" it translates "Joyce "Na verdade, estou tão cansada.""---This is correct
but if you insert only "I'm so tired, actually." it translates ""Na verdade, estou tão cansado."" ---which refers to a male character!
The simple fact that you put the character's name before his statement made the translation work correctly!
In any case, no translator is perfect!
