So what's the fixation on female character games? I notice there seems to be a huge bias on releasing female protag games vs male protag and I dont get the appeal of playing as a female vs a male interacting with females when most of us are male anyways.
The simple answer is: hentai games with female protagonist is way easier to make, story-wise, without 'locking' the genre.
- Don't need backstories for random guys raping them, most of them are one-time only characters
- Don't need excuses to have random forced sex scenes (tentacle rape, goblin rape, bestiality etc)
- Pick-your-own-fetish (sex scenes are mostly depending on what you do. Don't want defeat rape? Well don't get defeated)
Versus hentai game with male protagonists:
- Heroines needs a complete backstory with logical reason why they want the hero or vice versa (in NTR genre)
- You need more heroines to accommodate most of players' fetishes (a minimum of 3, really: younger, same age, older)
- You need certain procedures to unlock the sex scene (unless you're Rance...well even you're Rance or you're in the 'rape'em all' type of game)
- Tends to be more story-driven (so more story focus and thus you need to write a lot more).
- People may hate the creator if they included NTR plotline (netorare, not netori) on the heroines (despite there would be people that's happy, can't please everyone really)
TL;DR it's far easier and cheaper to make female protag(read: victim) games.
