There's nothing wrong with AI art, especially if you touch it up. In fact, it helps homogonize art styles, and can add detail which would take an artist days or more to do.
If you can get the settings right you can make some decent stuff like this

I didn't had any issues. Did your savegame start with version 10?
You could try to save at different locations in the old version and see if you can load it in version 11. My save was in the gym, and I could load it in v11.
