I used Unity because originally I was going to have this match-3 puzzle mini-game as a core part of the game. I have some gifs of how it looked like actually:

I began developing Footopia in 2021 but never managed to finish it because life kept getting in the way. However, the project continued to nag at me, so I pared it down to its essentials (took out the puzzle game) and spent a few weekends bringing it to a somewhat-complete state. Ultimately, it's better than nothing, though I agree that it has many rough edges and could be improved further.

You've hit on two other points which I 100% agree on: The phone UI is very suboptimal and heavily breaks immersion, and it's just a bit weird and I don't like it. The other point is that the dialogue is sometimes a bit hard to follow and needs to be refined or cut-up better.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and for playing the game. It's reassuring to see that others have noticed the same areas for improvement. Thank you for taking the time to play and share your thoughtful feedback—it truly means a lot.
That all makes sense. I thought it was a case like that, a beta or it started as something different, not just a regular visual novel. I don't know if you're planning to continue developing it as it is but your art is so good, I'm sure if you made a comic or reused the assets in another medium/engine you could still make it work, with much less effort.

I downloaded the game from the ichio page when it was first posted here and finally got round to playing it. I really, really wanted to like this game, it's so rare that we get an actual foot focused game on here, but the dialogue writing is all over the place, the use of so many animated elements on screen at once lags the game to hell, and I couldn't even enjoy the scenes because my game glitched out and stopped loading most of the actual images, which were already not as enjoyable as they could be due to the size limitations of the wierd phone mechanic. The artstyle was genuinely interesting and pretty likable too, I wish I was actually able to appreciate it. Honestly, if anyone can make a gallery of just the image files I'd appreciate it since I only got to see like six of them. Maybe next time they can include an option to turn off animated sprites/backgrounds/text to limit resource usage.
