I played the FOBS rebuild, and it's barebones man. And probably only being 'remade' because it's been 'in development' for a ridiculous amount of time lol. You yourself said how barebones it is lol. I will admit that maybe we could debate whether a rebuild counts, but IMO I say hard no.
And the reason is that do-over/recode/moving engines/redoing artwork/blah blah blah are all incredibly common tricks sub milkers have been employing for years and isn't actually meaningful progress.
To be clear, Zell has already shown he can actually release games. This isn't about him specifically. This is about setting a baseline so people can efficiently see which games not to get their hopes up and to encourage devs who are on this site and actually care about the potential audience here to not be trolls.
IMO, a do-over/recode/engine upgrade/art rework/blah blah blah should not count as an update until it surpasses the previous state of the game to make it perfectly clear that the dev is still going in circles with said game.
An abandoned tag is not the end of the world or a slight against the creator. It is a TOOL for US, and its point should be to let potential players know that no real progress in being made on the game and hasn't for whatever the window is (a year if I recall). That is a long freaking time.
So my point stands. If a game gets the abandoned tag, to anyone but the most zealous and fanatical votaries of porn of all thing, it is usually accurate.
I actually don't know what our policy is about rdo-over/recode/you get the point, but IMO we should start being far harsher about that crap, even if it means having a new tag warning about it.
But if you want to count negative progress as an update, whatever I guess.
idk if we should wait that long to remove the abandoned tag, you do realize how much of a game fobs became right?
from my understanding he's pretty genuine when he says he's going to do something. back when fobs was 1 game he ran into limitations which prevented the interactions he wanted to put in, predominantly physics. so he made a fobs B set-up a different way so the movement wasn't just dloc and actually used some form of force linearvelocity and friction system. then aparently he got invited to work on other games which paid a salary (SA), and most of his time went into that to the point he put fobs on hold notice. then one thing led to another and other games came up, shiratane and such. then those were mostly finished, so now he's returning to fobs.
What I gather is, rather than use the old engine he used for fobs A and B, he wants to use the same software as shiratane tower because it allows alot more in terms of physics, interactive elements(like above head bars, zooming and higher resolution graphics) and more advanced control over menus etc. pretty much he did SA and saw some game elements he liked and for whatever reason could not do them in the old software.
with that out of the way, I'd say we should remove the abandoned tag when enough progress towards rebuilding the game is done to show "meaningful intent".
so I'm just going to list some things that the current version is lacking that if added would show meaningful intent in my book;
1: entry to character's house
2: a working save point
3: a gallery hall and room for captured girls
4: the ability to actually capture girls
5: at least 3 items; masturbate, run and dash
6: access to the initial fobs zones (forest, and mountains)
7: new alternate animations for existing fobs characters and/or new girls(we have this #7 started already, so lets see if he continues with it).
Essentially I expect to see fobs (v0.whatever) recreated, however I naturally expect to see him include new things such as elements he liked about the other games he worked on, like perhaps collectables and a store, or companion monster girls, girl levels increasing abilities of your crest-items'power like in SA. maybe extra lives, and gear. I don't expect these things exactly but something like them to warrant using this new software.
lastly;
8: bench girl should be placed at locations he will continue from in the future
this is not much to ask, though it will take him a while to rebuild the forest and mountains. but if he does somewhat complete this list in whatever way he does, then I'd say it's fair to remove the abandoned tag. Even if he switches to another game (like SA2) later we should remove the abandoned tag if he has made the meaningful intent of progress in rebuilding this and continues to some level.
