My close circle of friends inspire more warmth, care and safety than the overwhelming majority of my "biological family" does, you absolutely can choose your family and you can love friends more than them because ultimately biological bonds mean nothing. Emotional bonds do. Most of my family are strangers, because they never cared or alienated themselves by treating me like shit -- almost comes off like "biological" is a worthless metric, huh?nah i dont think i can love friend as much as i can love my daughter am willing to die for my daughter but not for really good friend i spent 20 years with. i feel like familie love much more biology instead of trust build overtime in somthing we have in common . like i can lose a friend but my daughter wont ever be stranger .
Friends that care, love and support you or are there for you will always matter more than biological family who's only claim to relevance is being related to you by blood. In my personal opinion? People are people regardless of their relation to you, them being related by blood is absolutely meaningless. Your family is no more special than your close friends, and for countless people -- their friends are closer and more loved than their family.
Honestly, the fact a 20 year old good friend doesn't seem important enough to you to risk your life for says quite a lot of unfavorable things about you.
