* Guy feels like an actual competent adult. I've come across at least a few VNs where the MC is an "adult", but feels like a teen or something..
* Guy isn't purely a vehicle for power fantasy. I mean, obviously there's power fantasy stuff, especially with 2 of the routes. But, the amount of people that got pissed at Guy losing a fight against a young guy and then running away from a hobo with a knife is hilarious. That shit's real, and also is the author telling us that the player isn't invulnerable and that his world WILL have consequences.
* The LIs are written as characters with their own feelings & desires rather than as lust ornaments for the player's fantasies.
* And finally, the dialogue is great! No awkward phrasing or words that no one ever uses in RL like "musn't" or w/e. Seriously, I've come across like THREE whole games where the characters use "musn't" and they weren't period pieces or nobles or anything! What is going on!? Do Brits use that contraction or something?

Preach it brother, this game/story is easily one of my favorites. The dialogue/writing is definitely top tier, other devs/writers could learn a thing or two from FiN.

i didn't play Dark Path initially cuz i didn't know there was a patch

but im curious about something. Above I read that in Dark Patch Nikki is leaving? Is that a future plan or has Nikki left already in Chapter 8?

Can I also ask what was the reason Nikki leave on Dark Path?

Basically, every character has their own unique breaking point on the dark route. For Viola, she will leave after the first incident forever, for example. For Nicki, she will take more shit from the MC, but if he doesn't relent, she will leave as well. The last dark scene before she leaves is MC forcing himself onto her while a kid she's babysitting is in the next room.

hello guys, recently started the game however i realised there is a small problem using the Taboo patch as it doesn't seem to work? i used the mega download link (not the vanilla) the patch is indeed turned on but there doesn't see to have real difference, i can see using Renpy universal console that there is a lot of dialogue options related to the patch present but the actual patch content isn't there at all even when looking in the game files.

Mega is simply a website to download from, nothing to do with vanilla version (Friends Indeed) vs normal version (Friends in Need). So, unless there's confusion, make sure you have the Friends in Need normal version. If you have the right version, make sure the patch.rpy is in your Friends-In-Need/Game directory and start a fresh new playthrough; if you activated the patch in the middle of a game, it won't work. If you can assault Nicki in the beginning, it's activated.

If it still doesn't work after all that, then you might need to delete the persistent files. Could back them up just in case, but I don't know if that's necessary. I don't know where they are on other devices, but on Windows:
-> where ever your game is installed \FriendsInNeed-#.#\game\saves
delete the file named 'persistent'
-> C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\FriendsinNeed2-1641753492
delete another 'persistent' file
-> C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\FriendsinNeed2-1641753492\sync
not sure why there's yet another 'persistent' file here, but delete that one for good measure

Why does the chapters jump from 4 to 8?

The author was originally splitting some chapters into parts, but then decided it was better to just separate each major update into its own chapter to better communicate the progress of content in his game.

but really, those are the same reason I really enjoy this game, just enough realism to it...and the writing is above the average we see.

Yep. You have a number of choices there, one of which is a horrible one that plays out how you'd imagine... and you never see her again after that.

There's a few people here that play the dark route only for the story and skip the sex scenes cause they find them disturbing. You can try that if you're really curious, the writing is just as impressive as the other routes. It's an interesting perspective for sure and, for me personally, makes the love route that much sweeter. It's like as if you read an alternate LotR where Sauron won and conquered middle-earth, Frodo & Sam were tortured beyond recognition, the Shire was raped and enslaved, etc. and then you read the normal version and get to see all that ick from the previous reading fall away. It's very satisfying for me lol though obviously not for everyone

its cool that if we only ask viola to try some clothes(kinda creepy lets be honest, but within reason), she will be happy being a russian maid after Guy gives her a lift and help with the landlord problem.

I tell ya, for a bunch of 3d pixels, the amount of guilt this game's dark route instils in me is intense. I do get this moreso whenever I play 'dark routes' in 3d rendered games (little less hard to completely separate it into fiction as opposed to 2d art), but it is also a testament to the writing and the story overall in this VN.. luckily there is at least one character I feel less internally tormented for raping, but most of the time when I choose the darkest options, it's that classic "wth did I just do" kind of fap.

I love that FiN starts out the gate giving you a real feeling of consequences less to do with some grandiose event, just personal. The best example is when you get the opportunity to rape a Russian immigrant; Not too long after that event you get an opportunity to check out her social media account, only to see her with her mother in what looks to be a pretty low-income apt. That really hit! The attention to detail and giving a sense of realness to these characters should be applauded - the writing reflects very real talent.

Saving my review for when I complete the game.. maybe in a year or two when I muster up enough courage/good karma to healthily manage my own internal strife from playing this game like a sith lord.

As soon as she did anything, at any time, with anybody other than the MC (either in her imagination or real) she was dead to those type of "people". I mean she did it once (ignore financial situation) she could do it again! And that is a risk they just can't take

Yeah, the story is very interesting in that for pretty much anyone, you can justify being nice or being a dick depending on how you interpret the other character's actions.

Nikki - Can be seen as a gold digger friend or just a genuine friend caught in a bad spot.
Gabby - Can be seen as a total bitch for no reason or a young woman going through a hard time who pushes people away
Brittani - An opportunistic mean girl who will do anything to get ahead or a naive young woman caught in an industry that chews people up and spits them out.
Ashe - Someone who will use her connections and sexuality to get what she wants or someone who is manipulated thanks to her trusting nature.
Mason - A lazy person who waits around for hand outs or someone who just needs a chance to make something of themselves.
Viola - A perfect and sweet angel who has never done anything wrong and if you're mean to her, you're a monster.

Sent this about 6 months ago and I stand by it. All of these girls have their issues. It all depends on what triggers you.

Add in Risa, who we now know is a drug addict and I know of at least one person that triggers quite a bit.

But yeah, Viola is still perfect and innocent and i'll fight anyone who says otherwise.

I just hope Viola doesn't get picked on for how she talks since she is still learning the language if that happens she would remind me of a Side Girl from another game I recently played. Viola may not be my favorite but damn if that isnt a hill I would die on as well she is too perfect and innocent.

Does Viola actually have content now? The last time I played it was literally just the one time you see her at the store and can pay her to strip (or can go further if darkmode) but regardless of what you did that was it you could not pursue any further relationship or whatever with her.

She has a small scene when you pick Ashe up for your date and drive home but think she is one of the planned characters to get some content in the next update. Not sure on the size as I assume Risa and Gabby are gonna be the main parts of content
