There are multiple characters in this game that don't get screen time unless you are pursuing them
Are there? I don't play anyone's friend route, so maybe someone can chime in. The last chapter was basically Mason's first major content, so it had to happen. Before this point, you basically encounter him, what, twice? On the street? In very, very short scenes. I don't think any of this game's characters just totally lose screen time or anything just because you friend zone them, they just lose the sexual/relationship stuff. They still play a part in most of the major general plot beats, just in more subdued ways. For example, the scene with Gabby in the bookstore after she discovers you didn't inform her of her father's situation; it's present in all routes, just played differently. And afaik, that's basically the way this game will play out in all routes; each chapter will focus on certain characters, and these certain characters may have various dramas playing out that the MC will be involved in. Last chapter was Mason's and Pepper's turn, and obviously a little Gabby drama played out too to setup the upcoming daddy jail bail content :p So, expect more Mason peppered whenever the story's focus shifts again.

Btw, I get your overall point ofc, I'm not trying to push against that, everyone has their preferences and yadda yadda don't wanna beat a dead horse. But this specific point I'm not sure is correct, just thought I'd clear it up.

EDIT: accidentally quoted joshy... hm, my bad lol

I could be mistaken but I recall there being very little interaction with Pepper and Viola unless you select specific paths. There could be others as well but those are the two that jump to mind when I was thinking about characters who can be easily avoided. It's possible they'll be getting more content similar to other characters but I sort of viewed the game as having a few primary characters that got a lot of attention (Ashe, Gabby, Nikki, etc) and some minor characters.

Given this, I don't feel it's wrong to state my opinion that I prefer to not spend time with Mason.
No, it isn't. You have all the right not to like a character and wish they weren't there in the game in the first place or having the option not to see them again. What i say is that given the way this games are made, optionally cut out characters is quite the extravaganza for the developer. Take into consideration that the way biggest chunk of developement time is the sheer time in which the dev PC(s) is there rendering the images after the dev 'put in pose' the models. If everytime a cut character is in a scene another scene without the character has to be written, you double the rendering time for that scene. If the scene contains two or three or more characters that can be cut, the situation gets exponential.

So, my point is, it would be absolutely lecit to be pissed off if a game forces MC in a love story with certain characters. And it happens. And i honesly have hated it in some title. Expecially when it becomes the 'princess' effect. But wanting a character out of the game because you don't like it for any reason is unreasonable, because it's not just a matter of scripting the character out of the scenes. It's a very large amount of work, larger then the work you need to plain release an update.

So, you don't like Mason, fast click through the interations. I, for instance, don't like Ashe (nothing against her, just not my type and i kinda find her obnoxious) so i'll probably fast click through most of the next update. Unfortunately this is how VNs are.

I don't like her either, so, I'll probably skip next release as I'm on her friend path.

Dev Update! 7/31/23
Hey, hi, and howdy! Hope everyone's doing well this week.
At long last I'm winding down work on the next update. Renders stand at 1284 as of now. By this Friday I'll be posting the Beta version of Friends Indeed, with the final version to follow not long thereafter. As always, it'll be released in tiers, staggered by patron level, before finally being opened to the public. I know it's been a long road, but we're nearly there.
This week's been spent primarily working on erotic scenes, so I don't have a ton of images I can display here on the public post. So, I thought I'd whip up a few HD pics of Madison and Pepper, as a little bonus. We don't get to see a lot of Madison, but her time is fast approaching.
Besides the always-fun (and often-tedious! :D ) work of completing the art, I was also working to resolve a nasty little bug I'd made for myself. Folks at the $5+ support level will be aware of this, as I briefly explained my frustrations in last week's Sneak Peek post. I've said it many times, but I'm not a strong coder. Technical stuff just ain't my bag! Fortunately, I have an absolutely amazing community of supporters here, and had two different people offer me a hand with it. So big ups to fans of the game, Nyyppa and MasterOfPuppets. Y'all the real MVPs.
So, yeah! Not really much to say at this point. I'm just keeping my nose to the grindstone as I gut this one out.
I'm super excited to finally get this into everyone's hands, but I'm really excited to move onto the next update. See, when I began this project, I'd actually written a four-chapter outline. I wanted to get ahead of the curve, and have plenty of scripts in the can before I even started rendering.
But, things changed, as they tend to do. I added a lot of characters, a lot of new story hooks, got better at coding, and refined my whole production process. So, all that stuff basically got chucked in the trash. But, the original Chapter Four ended with a big story beat, which would have reverberated through following chapters. Now, finally, I'll be getting back to that moment. This means nothing to you folks, but for me it's kind of a big deal. I'm coming to the end of the road I'd initially laid out, and moving off into uncharted waters.
(Except I've totally be charting those waters, in the interim.)
So, stay tuned and watch this space, and I'll have some new stuff for you soon enough. As always -- I sincerely appreciate everyone who supports this little project of mine. Without you folks, I couldn't do it. Much thanks and eternal gratitude to all of you fine folks.
Take care of yourselves, and see you back here soon!
