Fully onboard with you until the last sentence. Where there is money there will be scammers, but I think it's sad if that means we burn the whole house down.
Nothing wrong with just making things as fun side-projects--I assume that's how most creators started--but I also think that if we want things like high quality renders, frequent updates, and long-term commitment to projects, that's a bit much to lay on the feet of happy hobbyists.
