Mid-September Post

As I ease into this Patreon thing, my plan is to have a middle of the month post explaining what to expect from the next version update, followed by that version update being released at the end of the month. Accordingly, I expect the next version update (v0.15) to be released on Tuesday September 30th.
Current plans for version update v0.15:

- A reworked tutorial. I had created the original tutorial with players like myself in mind- very short and introducing just the basics. However, a common criticism for version 0.1 was a combination of not knowing what to do or that too many tools were being thrown at the player at once. Therefore, I’ve remade the tutorial to be a full on-rails ghost hunt that walks the player through the hunt in a step-by-step manner. I’m also using it as an opportunity to overtly introduce game concepts instead of just having them there for players to figure out, such as how spending time with a character will progress your relationship with them.

- Chapter 2 will contain the second hunt location as well as introduce the central conflict of the game. During the hunt, there will be three new scenes with Noms, three new scenes with Queeny, two new scenes with both, and an undecided number of new scenes between them and Chad / Hanz. There will also be one new intermission scene with each of the girls.

- Mission selection board. My initial idea had been that what occurs between missions would be an on-rails experience with certain variables deciding which scenes/scenarios the player would get. I didn’t like how this would take freedom away from the player or how janky it would become if a player wasn’t smoothly hitting those progression variables, so I’ve decided to go with a mission selection board which contains more than just ghost hunting missions. In the long-term this will probably develop into Sev’s room being a hub area of things to do between missions, but this early version will just provide the ability to choose the next mission or to spend time with the girls. It will also state the requirements for the next intermission scene with a girl, so players will be able to enter a ghost hunt knowing what needs to be done to progress things with her.

- Quality of life improvements. As suggested by player feedback:
· Addition of UI buttons to bypass the phone interface and go directly to the map, to evidence, and to the event log
· Jump directly to a room from the map
· Change character loadout from the map

- Bugfixes

This is a super promising game so far, and the proposed changes will go a long way to ease some of the early frustrations.
A shortcut directly to the map is huge, but I'm not completely sure if moving room from the map is necessary. I wonder if it would be too easy to miss visual effects in the rooms you pass through if you just jump from place to place. I think something that might make navigating the map easier is to show which rooms have doors between them on the map so you can plan your route better, eg. not being able to go from Utility to Master Bedroom. With that and having a shortcut to open the map directly you could get around a lot easier without losing the experience of exploring the spooky house.

You're right about that being a possibility, but for now I think that's something I'll leave up to the players to decide on using. I'll see if there is strong feedback in either direction. It's also kind of thematic lol. Make impatient choices, be oblivious to whats happening, get ntrd when you fail.

I agree with the door thing, and it's something I've been looking into. I'm not sure if it will make it into the next update, but I've been iterating on map visuals. One of the current inclusions is the door symbols that floor plans use.

I didnt think the game was to hard to figure out it just took some experimenting with things to figure it out. But I havent been this excited about a game in a long time.

Eagerly anticipating this update. Absolutely fell in love with the demo so I'm definitely going to be downloading it every new update to try it out. Will also support it if it goes on for a bit to show the consistency of updates(been burned too often by devs abandoning things after a couple updates or intentionally slowing everything down to milk backers)

And is it only avoidable if you play the game with knowledge of how to avoid it- aka, making sure girls stay away from guys and managing their stress levels and such efficiently.. or do you truly have to choose to fail hard to get it to happen and that's why it's avoidable?... NTR should be a consequence(or bonus) of failure too- not just choosing to fuck up for a scene. Should be able to happen naturally if difficulty is decently balanced between currency gains and difficulty choice.

Yeah, it's an issue with NTR games that theres often a content drought for things between the MC and love interest. My goal is to have vanilla, NTS, and NTR routes which contain enough content to stand on their own. As an enjoyer of Kegani Laboratory and Makura, the worst part of playing their games is when you're actually playing well and get punished with absolutely nothing happening between the girls and the MC, eventually just throwing out of boredom. It's also my goal to have these routes be modular enough that things can flow between them in a way which feels organic and inline with what's happening gameplaywise.

When it comes to gameplay, my goal is to channel the old adage that you should create dilemmas instead of problems. There are going to be broadely two NTR conditions which conflict with eachother - spending time with the guys during a hunt, or if you fail a hunt. If you try to 'solve' one, you slam into the other. For best chances of succeeding in a hunt, the girls will need to work with their male teamembers - but this runs the risk of something happening between them. If you try to minimize their time with the guys, you run the risk of failing the hunt. It's also one of the reasons why I've made the ghost hunting aspect of the game as developed as it's become lol, so that it's more complicated/difficult than deciding between winning or losing.
But for that to work, I'm going to need to get the balancing right lol.

Can you start off where we left off last update or do we got to start a new game???
Theoretically yes, but I'm not actually sure how well the saves are going to carry over lol.
This was my first time coding outside of a very on-rails class about handling data with python. While the code I'm creating at this point is OK enough, I'm building on the short-sighted code that I was throwing together as an absolute beginner. For this update, the problem is going to be the changes to the code I made to generalize everything related to the ghost hunting segments, since I had initially coded everything specifically for the house in the prototype.

I was curious about one thing. Do you plan on the NTR being entirely a one way process where once they start getting to a certain degree of willingness to do stuff with the other guys and then always being willing to do stuff with them or would you be able to sort of gradually win them back to being faithful to you through playing good and reverting to being unwilling?

That's what I had hoped with the game balance. There's a lot of ways to tweak it though and some things don't fully make sense.. Like you can tell someone to set up equipment for the same stamina cost as doing it yourself- which is fine as a sort of narrative shortcut.. But maybe if one of the guys helped it could shave off a stamina loss- sort of thing.

Vanilla is simple to create and can work as a toggle... but I feel like any effort into an NTS theme would take away which should be focused as NTR.. right now there is no real development and if NTR is planned it should not just happen after NTR is teased which can be as early as the first mission.. There should be some development before-if not a new heroine in the future... You're using AI- and that means scenes have to be made around what the AI gives you rather than what you write. If the AI struggles to give you the angles and thematic feel of NTR- then it's hard to write the scene as such.

NTS and NTR are essentially two different games if you plan to do each well enough- and not a simply: okay She knows you're watching- vs She tries to hide the fact something happened. Which requires a short paragraph here and there and then the rest of the scenes could be the same for both versions. But if you want to do it WELL- I think focusing on one or the other along with the vanilla route would be best. Dropping either NTR or NTS. (Preferably NTS since I really would like to see this game go full force into NTR themes that NTS can't do because it just ends up as a corruption/swinging game)


Many will disagree maybe- but that's just my opinion. Limit your vision so you can focus more on what is interesting as well as bringing sooner ETAs. Of course- if you simply made one heroine a closer relationship with the MC- a girlfriend. And the other a slut- that teasing you. Then you already have NTR and pseudo-NTS in the game it's just divided by char- and maybe NTR fans like the NTS girls design more and vice versa. I doubt a 3rd heroine for the sake of closer canon relations without changing current character plotlines can exist without game rebalancing unless she replaces someone.

Three day delay

Hey!
The good news – I got a new computer. I’ve been using a 13 year old PC which I upgraded once with a 2060 6gb, which has been less than ideal when it comes to generating and editing images. I’ll now be able to create image content with better models and much, much more quickly.

The bad news – Between life stuff and setting everything up on this new PC, I’ve fallen a few days behind schedule. To ensure I have enough time to thoroughly play-test everything so y’all aren’t experiencing a buggy mess, I’ve decided to delay the next update until Friday.

The new release will be on Friday, October 3rd.

congratulations on the computer. As for the wait, while i cant speak for everyone i dont mind waiting a little more when creators give information on what is going on. So thanks for the messages and GL in your future work and in general.

Explanation: Two really good opportunities came up in my normal life, and I jumped on them. I'll be going back to school to get a masters degree that will save me from working in clinical research, and I'll also very likely be doing volunteer firefighter work on the side. The application process cut into my finite amount of time, but they're submitted and my computer is now fully operational.

Sorry for these five days worth of delays, and thank you for your patience.

The update is coming out some time this week

After spending the last two days and working through last night, I've come to the conclusion that my math sucks at calculating how much time this work will take. I'm really happy with how it's coming together, but there's still a bit more that needs to be done. To rectify this, I'm now invoking Odin as well as the god of Abraham that the update will be out by the end of the (work)week.

Here's a preview of things soon to come, since I think I've come a bit closer to locking in the style while working on this update.
