That's good news, so in theory its algorithm is correct it's just in practice the tool is poorly implemented! Now all I need is an example game to test with!
Thank you very much, fixed! Btw, all texts can be seen here all at once: (you have to scroll to the right, because Chinese is in the 13th column). Not much, there are 50 phrases (rows) in total.

Damn I needed this, gonna test it out on a bunch of games and see how it goes.

F*ck, PR merge failed and now I'm locked out from the gitlab account entirely. Not just the web interface, I can't even push a commit :-( :-( :-(
Guess it's time to move the repository, ...again. Sorry, there'll be a delay.

Noted, downloading and I will check, but sorry, right now I'm very busy with other project, don't know when I'll have the time again to work on GR. Probably after Easter.

Hello, when I use gameripper for srpg games like Heelfall and loyalists demise the Data.dts file creates a Project.bin instead of a Project.srpgs file.

I’m assuming I did something wrong or am just not understanding how the tool works, so sorry if this is a silly question, but how do I get the Project.srpgs file? Any idea what I may have done wrong?

That's normal. GR just extracts the file, but it does not decode it (at least, not yet).

No worries. As far as I know, no tool exists that could recover the Project.srpgs from a binary properly. SRPG_Unpacker is the closest, but it does not understand newer encryption schemes, it's missing lots of classes and commands, and it sometimes messes up encodings which makes strings unreadable. Not sure if it's abandoned or not.

Hi djacoaio,

Hmmm, there's no audio-related error message in your log, so it should work. I've also tested with PR reward 2024_11, I've attached my log. I see no difference with your log (except the timestamps), and audio is working for me perfectly.

A few thoughts:
- not all animations have audio, just some (actually I had to scroll down a lot to find the first one with a sound effect, see attachments)
- there's no audio if you press the "Scan for sprites" button (because sprite sheets store no such info)
- maybe another app was running and blocking the audio?
- have you accidentally muted your machine or experiencing contact problems with your headphone?

I'm truly sorry, I have no clue why there's no audio for you. I see no obvious reasons why it shouldn't work. Also it does work for me, and I can't fix something that I can't reproduce.

(ps: the only thing I've noticed is that something is wrong with your UTF-8 encoding setting, but I doubt this should affect the sound effects.)

I'm sorry but I'm having the same exact issue. I tried several versions of Game Ripper but none of them ever played sound/audio for Princess Reconquista, no matter which version of the game also. I remember your "gallery.exe" played with sound just fine, but game ripper never played any sound for me.

The problem with this is, that sound playback works fine for me, and I cannot fix it if I can't reproduce it.

Yeah, "gallery.exe" used a hackish solution, it created a WAV file in memory and then used the Win32 snd API to play it. On the other hand GR uses the multiplatform SDL framework, more specifically the SDL_Audio interface, so no more Win32 hacks. If the initialization of this fails and SDL reports an error, then you should see an "unable to initialize audio device" message in the log. If you can't see that message and there's still no audio, then this must be an SDL bug (which is very very unlikely, but possible).
For the records, both gallery.exe and GR initializes the audio device at 44100 Hz, stereo channels, singed 16 bit samples (which is the most commonly supported by audio hardware so should never fail). The gallery.exe just assumed that all .ogg is extracted into this format, however GR makes sure of this, it calls SDL_ConvertAudio.

Can you please run "gameripper.exe -vvv" (with v 3 times), play an anim that should have sounds and attach the gameripper.log here? That would print lot of details, including if or when audio conversion was needed.

EDIT: here's a version, could you please give it a try? It's 100% the same as before, I've just recompiled SDL with WINMM, WASAPI and DirectSound drivers. If there's a bug with SDL_Audio then hopefully this should have solve it. (Note: this has terrible white-noiseish sound under wine for me, that's why I've disabled DirectSound before. WINMM worked for me and should have worked for you too though, as that's the interface gallery.exe is using too.)

Unfortunately it still doesn't work the version you attached. I checked if there is any issue with my sound settings and I have found no issues. I also tried several audio devices (speakers, headphones) and still no sound. Here's the log. (changed it to .txt)

Thank you very much! That's sad news.

Could you please give another try to this version? I'm sorry about the trial-and-error cycle, but it works for me, so I'm flying completely blind here. I'm optimistic about this one though.

This version uses configurable frequency and number of channels and it autodetects the sound card's config and sets up SDL_ConvertAudio accordingly. The detected configuration is printed to the log. I really hope this should work for you now.

If by any chance it does not, then could you please try to run it as "gameripper.exe -w"? This should avoid using SDL_Audio altogether, and fallback to the same WinMM hack that "gallery.exe" was using. (When running with "-vw", the log should say "audio is using WinMM instead of SDL_Audio")

The sound finally works from the version you attached! Thank you so much!

I didn't run it as "gameripper.exe -w" as you mentioned, since it already worked the first time I used it.

Once again, thank you! You are a legend

New release 1.9! They say it's better late than never, Bakin and VN Maker support finally here.

Windows: https://attachments.f95zone.to/2025/04/4782673_gameripper-windows.zip
Linux: https://attachments.f95zone.to/2025/04/4782675_gameripper-linux.zip
Source: https://attachments.f95zone.to/2025/04/4782676_gameripper-src.zip
Repo: codeberg.org/gameripper/gameripper

Changelog:
- fixed audio on Windows with certain sound drivers
- the "-w" flag switches to WinMM audio (Windows only)
- minor fixes to ZIP (when local header flag bit 3 is set)
- PGMMV uses the "unpack" directory like the other engines
- added support for new PGMMV dir structure (GOUBAKURAN RumbleStorm and similar games now work)
- added support for Visual Novel Maker games
- added support for RPG Dev Bakin games

Notes: Bakin is decrypted and extracted, might even be embeded in .exe, however some files seems to be .rbr files, which I have no clue how to decode, so no maps for now. For PGMMV I've decided to use the "unpack" directory for output like the other engines, because even though PGMMV works that way, it's better if GR is being consistent.

Sorry guys about the delay and thank you for your patience!

Thanks for the update. Adding the Bakin support is great news. Having consistent directories is also nice.

Got my hopes up with the Bakin support and tried it on two games.
It didn't work for tested games, but I found out that got an update recently and it worked.
