I wish devs would stop messing with rollback. I don't get why they think it's a good thing. Have they never actually played somebody else's VN before? Being able to quickly check the options a bit - or changing your mind after the scene went in an unexpected and undesired direction - is just too nice. Particularly because of the serial releases we see, where you can't actually do depth-first playthroughs, if there are multiple routes you're interested in. Instead you'd have to keep multiple saves and play through each small new bit for each route for each release. Who's going to the trouble of taking notes on what's actually happened in each route? Instead it all just turns into a blur, and takes a *ton* of time.
Being able to quickly rollback helps with a lot of these. Many choices are actually not important, but the player might very well have a preference. Are you going to play through every game enough times to get each version of each bit of flavor dialogue? And it's not even like players can reliably know - for certain - which choices actually matter or not.
Messing with rollback just reeks of not caring about player's time, at all.
It looks like it'll take a bit of actual effort to get this fixed (tried throwing in a patch from another game, but no luck). I'm nowhere near invested enough to actually go to that much trouble. Maybe the next time I happen on this thread it'll be fixed, or there will be a patch. In the mean time, I've already got more games downloaded than I have time to play, so...
