Almost November #Devlog

Like many of you, I thought the worst was behind us. However, our latest internal beta tests have revealed a critical bug, the kind that ruins the game experience and completely blocks progress.

To make things even more complicated, this bug only appears on the Windows version of the game. Due to the severity of the issue and the very unfavorable timing, we currently have no visibility on the time required to resolve it. Nevertheless, we are doing everything we can, as always, to address it as quickly as possible.

This brings me to discuss the deadlines we set. We establish them primarily for you, our backers, who deserve to know when the next version will be available. However, with the game engine change, this deadline has become an added pressure, as we face unexpected issues related to this new development environment.

I’d rather be honest with you: we can’t continue like this. This might be hard to understand for some, but it’s essential—even vital. My role is to ensure that the people working with me can do so in the best possible conditions. Constantly imposing unachievable deadlines brings the team closer and closer to burnout, something we must absolutely avoid.

From now on, the next updates will be released when they’re ready. This might be risky, but without this change, I’m not sure I can preserve the mental health of the team, nor my own.

Let’s end on a positive note: the storyline for version 0.11 is 90% complete, and it will forever change the story of Goodbye Eternity. Three new female characters will also make their debut: Erika, Nobu’s older sister; Hanako, Kenji’s mother; and Tsubaki, Takeo’s girlfriend.

Once again, I apologize for not being able to meet my commitments as planned, but please know that this doesn’t change our dedication to this project. We will continue to work hard to deliver the best possible version to you.

It's always the same pattern on those kind of games: they all aim to become the next summertime saga and delay as much as possible, you can't trust any of them because tbh if I was making an adult game, I would do exactly the same: people will pay because they don't know how gamedev works and how lazy you are. I've been a gamedev for a decade now so I know what I'm talking about.

I appreciate the developer's honesty. Making games is not easy, and this is not simple, RenPy. The developer wants to make Goodbye Eternity in the engine he can sell on GOG. All that makes sense although disappointing and I hope his coding team is not taking him for a ride trying to milk him.

Expanding on the existing game sounds interesting. RNGeusEX took the correct approach, getting routes with characters fully completed one by one. I've seen games that were developed for years, and although you would have tons of characters, with amazing art and animations, you have not had any sex with any of them (except some Rando characters for the tags).

So thank you for completing Noriko and Yasuka routes. Yasuka is missing an essential anal scene :) in my opinion, but overall game delivered the conclusion with the main characters, characters that attracted us to the game in the first place.
Kudos dev. Everything else is an icing on the top.

Its getting very close to that it starts with delays then slow updates become the norm then the uptates become small even tho still taking a ton of time

This workaround has worked for me to avoid the crashes.

1. Start the game
2. Open the Task Manager
3. In the Details section, find the game process (should be something like Goodbye_Eternity-vXXXX.exe)
4. Right click on the game process, select "Set affinity"
5. Untick ALL the CPUs, except for one (I leave CPU 0 ticked). Click on the OK button
6. Play the game as normal

Before, the game crashed within the first minute. After doing this, I've been playing for almost an hour without a single crash.

If this works for you, leave a comment.

So he makes the switch to a new engine saying itll make everything better, and then it doesn't and makes everything worse and now the game is completely fucked up and updates are delayed indefinitely with no clear release area from now on. nice

Well, he needed to be able to sell this game on GOG and it has to use a specific engine (I do not think they accept RenPy), which I personally fully support. There are always growing pains.
Let's hope all bugs are fixed and the game is back to functional.

There's plenty of ren'py games on gog you can even get Love and Sex there. The only reason for engine change was dev teams egos; they wanted to be perfectionists, and they now have real engine problems. Should have focused on releasing their first game and getting some money and reputation from the finished product while still sucking on patreon/subscribestar.

I agree with you; they’re real perfectionists. The way they keep the game under 1 GB while maintaining high-quality visuals, and then adding extra encryption functions to the Ren'Py version to prevent reverse engineering (even though some people still managed to get around it =]]). It’s impressive.

In my opinion, switching engines is a massive challenge, with an overwhelming amount of work and countless bugs to fix. Personally, I’d never take on something like that unless I absolutely had no other choice :(

Thank you for sharing. This is one of my most anticipated games to play and I've been holding off as I had read this new update was coming. I sincerely hope it still is able to be released sometime in the near future. I intended on subbing to the Patreon as soon as the update came -- I've been really excited to play this one, sucks we'll have to wait a bit longer :( I guess, though, if it means it'll be done right, then it'll be worth it to be patient!

Thank you. I did not know about RenPy games on GOG.

Yeah, I also prefer well-developed games, even if they take more time. Let's hope it is worth the wait.

Just want to add that this release model where we get a full story arc with characters is the best one out there.
We are not being teased until the very last game release. We got Asami right away, then Yasuka (sadly no anal... that's criminal she has to have an anal scene), then we got Sakuya and Noriko (the most surprising and amazing release ever!).
Thank you RNGeusEX, I am sure once everyone calms down they will see things the same way. We appreciate all that you do.

I just started this recently and I'm curious. What's the structure of this game? Does it have branching routes, or a linear progression with varying focus on each heroine depending on your choices?

I went for Yasuka from the beginning and friendzoned befriended Asami, but then Sakuya's section happened and treated Asami almost like another lover. I thought the script there was written expecting you've taken "Asami love" route, so I tried to restart and do that for completion's sake. But then the events went differently, and I'm wondering if it's a different route or it's just extra events that will lead back into what I saw the first time.

Also, a few times I've seen screens like attached one. What does it mean by "Asami's storyline" and "main story"? How do I "come back"?

This further convinces me to wait for the next big update if it's going to be that major. I'm gonna be jumping right on it as soon as it releases, but I definitely would rather have a more-complete experience with what the dev has been hard at work putting together :) Thanks for the response!

This sounds like something a shareholder would say to a dev team. They've already gone out of their way to take on the monumental task of switching engines simply because Ren'py couldn't handle the animations that they wanted for the game.
It makes a world's difference for the dev pipeline when an engine is and isn't built for something.
The Godot release was...functional, nothing too game-breaking, but the sex animations were phenomenal. I say let them cook.
