I want to ask about the game it stated that male protagonist and female protagonist do we choose the gender of the main character or do we during gameplay will change main character during certain parts of the game ?
Kinda late to this message but i dont mind the harem end as much, as it was basically a given with his interactions with women. I agree with the kazuki comment though. Not a fan of how she is a canonical lover after how she treated yuji when they were younger tbh. Twisted love doesnt excuse a canon incest character, so it was disappointing to see that after i got through eden recently cause i had time to finish the triology. I probably wont try phantom trigger tho cause i saw that twink mc and the plot itself doesnt seem as interesting. For how Grisaia series came to be in recent years, IMO it's kinda victim of its own success.
Now let's see what's happening IMO :
1. The OG series has superb story, especially the FoG. It clearly can stand on its own without full-blown 18+ sex scenes. Now it's at the point of being former 18+ eroge held it back it couldn't go "full public" except being a fanservice anime, unlike Fate/ Kanon/ other big names before it.
2. Sadly, the conclusion of the series, EoG was clearly too rushed out in 2013 after only a year of developing. The ending alone wasn't too bad, it's the Afterstory that thrown everything set up in their best work, FoG, out of the window, (Spoiler) by setting up Harem and entering incest zone. Nice job, Frontwing (Spoiler).
3. Then here comes the ridiculous part : The most popular character of this franchise wasn't the main girl. It's a breakout character called Kazami Kazuki... The MC's big sis who was great in FoG (Angelic Howl) but ended up as a squick full-blown incest character thanks to EoG Afterstory. (Spoiler)Being a character who violated her little brother when young were one thing, but being one who actually had sex with him, even in a fanservice scene, is a TOTAL different thing. It'd been OK if it's her optional route but in a general route? Nope.(Spoiler)
And then there is Tokyo Law (Bill 156). Effective since 2011.
EoG could get by because it was released as an eroge. But can it go public after that? Nope.
So, problems are : You have a mainstream action-oriented (former 18+) asset that has potential to go full public BUT its poster girl was an incest character who you can't promote properly. What would you do?
The only saving grace here is that EoG Afterstory was but a special unlockable fanservice chapter. So they decided to do what's necessary : Ignoring it completely in Anime version/ All ages and making the sequel which kinda retconned EoG ending. This way they can get by somehow.
And there we have it. Phantom Trigger, Chronos Rebellion are an all-age games that went full-public. They were experimenting on 18+ route with Battlefield Baracolle (gacha game with 18+ scenes accessible via DMM) but it only lasted a year though. Guess it just can't go that way anymore.
Just my opinion.
