Overview:
A story of revenge.

Hanachirasu is set in a parallel timeline where nuclear weaponry was never developed. As such, Japan continued to fight through World War II, ending aggressions only when Hokkaido and Kyushu were occupied by Russia and America, respectively. The game itself takes place in early 21st century Tokyo, which has been transformed into a haven for Japanese culture thanks to the nationalistic ideals of the charismatic Ishima Kaigen. Strict policies are in place in to enforce a ban upon firearms within the city limits. Thus, though terrorism and power struggles run rampant, swordplay, not gunfire, claims the lives of those not powerful to stake out their claims here. Our protagonist is one Takeda Akane, a swordsman driven by a desire to face his one true rival, Igarasu Yoshia. What will stand in his path to his goal?​

I heard about this one from a guy at work, this is the first time i've found it though.

I was trying to find more along the lines of another one I read not so long ago, can't remember the full title but it was something like Cyber Slayer (I think) about some guy that almost gets killed and goes into hiding to recover, in the meantime his sister gets gangraped and killed and parts of her personality downloaded into robot bodies and a copy of her is made. He comes back for vengeance *insert lots of death and shit here*, really good read.

I've been trying to find more like that and this one was mentioned to me and one called 11 eyes or something like that.

I realize this is what VNDB says but thats a fucking lie. I tried playing this a few years ago and the first scene goes on for what feels like an hour and that was just a sword fight.

Read it, it's mostly about swordfighting and revenge fueled drama. If your only interested in the adult only content skip it or get a full save. Good artwork though in general.

It wasn't losing the cities themselves that made the Japanese back the fuck out of the war, it was the fact they lost the cities to one plane bombing each of them. Slowly losing territory takes longer to make countries back out of a war (in this case, they only backed out after losing almost a third of their country to different enemies at the same time) unlike the realization that you could potentially lose your entire country in one night from a single fleet of 40-50 bombers.

Actually that wasn't my point, either way, my point is off because now see that I was miss interpreting the synopsis of the story. I was understanding it as, with nuclear weapons gone, the alternate timeline only faults even modern days using swords in some skewed manner.

Guns still exist, it's just that firearms have been banned and are under extremely heavy supervision, so that basically no one can own a gun. The setting itself is still modern with cars and high rise buildings. Just think of it like there being a underground criminal organization, but they can't own firearms at all since they are under extremely heavy supervision, how is this criminal organization going to kill and threaten people if they don't have guns? Next best thing is bladed weapons, but yeah nanahara is a writer who cares about the physics and motions of battles and how they can realized in the world we live in, so its different from other writing you'd get in other battle oriented novels, but if you feel like reading something slower and more weighty I really recommend it.
