Hey its been a while since I last played Harem Hotel. The main thing I need help with is I can't get to the menu while playing the game. Right-clicking the mouse or hitting esc on the keyboard doesn't bring up save/load, preferences menu. How do I get to the pause menu? I tried hitting everything on the keyboard lol.
Unfortunately I have the same problem.
If I press "ESC" or Right Click while in game, the interace just dissappear.

I am not able to save, go to Gallery.
Pause Menu does not open anymore. No Cheats were used.

Hiding the UI is H or Center Click, not Esc/Right click.
Are you having this issue on other Ren'Py games too?

No, only with Harem Hotel.
I know that hiding UI is "H" or "Middle Click" (ingame this is still working as excpected) but it happens now also when I click "ESC" and "Right Click".
I did not change any pref. in keybindings.

I wasn't even aware that a player could change the keybindings in Renpy.
Have you tried clicking the 'prefs' button?

The only other idea I have would be to try deleting both 'persistent' files (the one in saves and the one in app data).

I don´t even have the Bar below with "Save" what also is odd that I have constantly the "Arrow" on the left side, if I click on it, I get into the City Content.
I will try to reinstall now.

Yeah, try a clean install, make sure you don't extract to the same folder.

I did now reinstall in new Folder, deleted all my saves and now everything is ok.
Sh*t happens :) Time to get again my money :D

Anyway, Thank you for trying to help me!
You should be able to use your saves, though the persistent file sounds bugged.

It's a bug that can happen when you click the back button in the bottom left corner of the screen and get taken to Residential District regardless of where you were a moment earlier, potentially breaking events. You become unable to use Esc to bring up the menu or make manual saves. The only solution I've found is ending the game and loading a save to a point before the bug happens, then being mindful to always rollback the instant the back button transports you to the Residential District.

EDIT: Updated to include the solution. Go to Your Computer in Your Room, then click the power button. This restores the ability to use Esc regardless of how you may have lost the ability to use Esc.

YES! This is exactly what I´ve had.
I will save now more often and hope this happens not again.

With my new save I´ve had the same issue, only new loading old save file helped.

I can probably find a way out of that weird game state using console commands, but I've yet to reproduce this on my own saves. I wonder if there is a common factor among you all that we're missing.

I only took a brief look, but the only in game menu prompt that's in the lower left corner that I can find that goes to the residential was if you were in the park. Perhaps there's another, but that was the only one I could spot and it was working properly. Maybe it's being linked to another UI element / scene.

Well, if we can figure it out, someone should report it to the bug channel in the discord.

Go to Your Computer, then click the back arrow in the lower left corner of the screen. You should now be in the Residential District, and your game should now be bugged.

Whatever prevents you from using Esc while looking at Your Computer stays with you and locks you out of Esc from then on, even though you can seemingly wander around. Any event or cutscene with a similar Esc lockout will cause the bug if you use the back arrow at the same time.

Sorry, I'm not in the Discord. I'm just playing through blind for the very first time! Great game so far!

Oh! I just did some quick experimentation and solved the bug on the user side.

If you are in the bugged state for any reason, you can go to Your Computer and click the correct button to shut down your computer. That then restores your ability to use Esc, regardless of how you lost the ability to use Esc.

That's the thing, none of my saves have that button there. Starting a fresh one didn't work either. There must be an event, or something done in a specific order, that cause this bug.

Well, at least you found a way out of it already.
