the combat quick time events can be turned off (i think it was tab to turn them off) and as soon as you get a healer which is like the 3rd party member health is not an issue since they can heal others endlessly, you'll only really need consumables for keeping your healer alive if you focus on just the healing and curing moves, i personally quite enjoy the combat but the big issue is later fights can take an incredibly long time, even just the trash mobs take a while to deal with, but you can also get through a lot of the levels by just using the items that clear enemies from the board with no real consequence since you only really need to grind for shards to upgrade your moves as opposed to leveling
