you can literally save the game anywhere you want by going to save and then save to disk.
The Melanie quest is bugged. Is there any way to fix it? Does the dev ever answer any questions on here? It seems it has been a bug for a long time. Does the dev do any bug fixing?
According to the profile, the dev was last logged to F95ZONE on August 10.
The same profile says that the dev last answered a question in this thread on June 14...

there is a point that you hit where you can do nothing more then work out with her because the rest of her story has not been written yet, be patient for the next update, hopefully there is more to come.
