Actually, is more common than you think, have you ever played a game where you can’t access some areas until the story ask for it? Well, is the same thing, the only difference is that some of these games are develop in the course of 4 or 5 years with teams of over 30 people or way more. So, once they release the game, the story is completed.It is generally bad development practice to make something "touchable" or "available" until it is actually used in game.
So you might have just left out the clickable activation on the door until the content is ready.
For us, we are a small group of 5 (3 artist and 2 coders, although some times we hire artists on Fiverr or other sites to help out on some parts) that relays on the patronage to continue the developing of the game, so we can’t afford to wait 4 or 5 years for releases, and we can't hire 30 people maybe once we have more patreons we could hire more artist and speed up the releases.
