yeah i get it why animations are an important thought (and in some games the animations are awesome, but would the game be not that good without them? dont think so), but i have to say, most of the games around here get kinda lost in animations and sex after a while... most of the games starting promising, and when you reach about the half than there are sex-scene after sex-scene and nothing more... the story of hillside is very promising, the charactres are very good written, the relationships are building up very good... keep the focus on that and dont get distracted with animations for fap-material... there is a good way to build up an "erotic" mood without them

DISCLAIMER: I really like this novel and I wish for it the best.
I'd said it so many times that I can just copy my posts, but I will say it again. Animations are totally overrated.
Almost everything you can do with animations, you can do as good with a few good static renders. The cost of animations in resources (be it money or time) is higher than the benefit.
This is particularly true for repetitive movements as, for example, sex scenes. In the end, sex scenes are just repetitive movements everybody have seen before. Now if we were talking about something complex, as a dance, that you wanted to showcase, now that would be harder to do with such a few renders, as essentially a dance is about movement. But that is really only true if you want to highlight the dance. Just for dancing as part of the story, static but well done renders is enough.
I know that ultimately this depends on your patreons which are the ones you should be hearing the most. But I dare to say that the reason people are drawn to this novel is mainly the story (i know it is kind of presumptuous to assume I know what people like.. take this if anything as my assumption and/or a statistical claim about what i've read in the forum than a certainty over all the population). The visual quality, while nice, is second to that. And without any doubt animations will reduce the speed of development.

Agree'd. While I am doing animations...I can churn them out without having to take 2 weeks to be able to do a 10s clip (though many of mine won't be sex animations but general ones). I admit, if that's someones issue (due to their GPU), just don't bother. If it's a simple loop, I'd personally prefer not to see it and just keep static and maybe do two or three more renders from different angles and slightly change the pose. Far more effective.
Bad animations are far worse than not having them at all and thinking about your scene composition instead.

I am going to be a little extreme by saying this but unless people are going by Oceanlab's quality and approach, which is extremely hard and costly to do, well done but static images are the way to go. In his case it's just that the end result is so good that you could, arguably, look the other way if you want. But he has animations as bottlenecks that result is slow updates.

For sure (and just wait heh)...the problem is in the time rendering, not even so much the time setting up the sequence. Could set up his opening sequence in a couple of hours (from SG). However, even at 2 mins a render and let's say you're doing a 10s clip at 30fps...
That's...10 hours....25 hours if your GPU can only do them at 5 mins a render....you get the picture heh. However, anyone trying to do animation stills that can't churn out a still (animated images don't need the same quality) in less than a few mins..using IRay....really needs to give it up and forget it (unless have a dedicated machine just for those). Far better render engines out there for churning out those 300, 500, 1000 stills for an animation (as actually animating in Daz is a fecking nightmare). As we say, better stick to just doing a few extra still images.
Anyway...going OT....apologies.

One who's more interested in getting a update out earlier for his Patreon's.
There are a few very good games on this site with great stories that haven't got any animations, and not having them hasn't spoiled the game at all, well not for me they haven't.
But I suppose if you want animations one could always pop over to Pornhub and watch some there.

Yes.. I am sure most people prefer to wait an extra week for the same repetitive moment that is a sex scene that anybody that is not 7 years old has seen before and understands and that it last... 30 seconds? Seems like a really good trade off... assuming 2 months of current development for a 30 minutes update... so an eighth of additional time developing for something that lasted one sixtyth of current update... that is not that you didn't have before, it is now simply animated (assuming is done perfectly).
Second, I am not an expert, but from what I've heard, you cannot compare animations in Ripples that is made in Honey Select to animations made in Daz or Blender.
I did mention that some things do need to be animated. A dance, a fight.. maybe. Sex is absolutely not one of them, being obvious and repetitive. And I did mentioned Ocean's animation are justified given the quality and approach. Most are not.
But anyway, we are discussing tastes... so no need to force an agreement, simply saying that I am extremely confident most would agree with me that the trade off is not worth it in most cases.
