I am with you on this one, Hillside is the only VN I have ever played where I thought a lot about it after finishing. It feels to me like it could easily be turned into an actual novel, which I think is really hard to pull off

only one route per playthrough, so if you want to be on emmas rout, you cant be on another characters route, like lucy for instance

This is true. Your dialogues with Emma and Charlie are even a little different if you are in a committed relationship with Lucy. I think that this is going to be code kudzu once there is more than one romance path locked in.

and he helps her overcome her fear of the basement with some encouraging words and a hug
