Sinful Summer is a game where the cringe beta loser MC doesn't even feel like he's the MC to begin with.
I find the writing to be bad and pretention and the visuals are mediocre at best even for HS standards.

I love their work, I just hate that stupid fucking law that has them censor everything. They can't accidentally leak the uncensored version out first for those of us not bound by that law to enjoy? What's the point of porn when half of it is not visible. Porn without visuals is just erotica, and I have better sources of that already.

I don't understand it either. If I were them, I'd release a "US" version with everything uncensored on US sites owned by or licensed to a foreign subsidiary. I'm sure there's a clever legal workaround available but oh well

No workaround needed. There are no laws against Japanese companies publishing uncensored porn outside of Japan. All companies, Japanese or foreign, must adhere to the decency guidelines if they make their game available in Japan, though. Fun fact, the law is rarely enforced and the whole censoring is largely self-imposed.

The fact of the matter is that Japanese companies selling Japanese games make by far most of their money from Japanese customers. The Western market is tiny and most Japanese games going westward do so pirated, not through sales channels. It's a matter of economics, the West will pirate most of the games and the tiny portion of Westerns that do buy just aren't worth the hassle for them. That extra time is best spent producing the next game they can sell to the Japanese.

I completely agree with this. It is also evidenced by sales of uncensored Japanese "style" porn games. Village Rhapsody, made by a Chinese company, is uncensored and sold damn near a million copies on Steam. There is definitely a market for it.

I just detaste that cartoonish simplified art style with the eyes occupying half of the face and overemotional reactions. Actually, in the traditional Japanese culture showing too much emotions, even on the level that the Westerners normally do, is a disgrace. But the anime culture took it all the way through the middle to the opposite extreme.

If they tried to release in the west they’d be trading one form of censorship for another. Sure now they can get rid of the mosaic censorship, but then they’d need to censor or change other aspects of it to get western credit card companies to process the payments. So it’d still be censored in one way in the west and then it’d be an even more heavily censored product to their main consumer base in Japan.

For the vanilla stuff that wouldn’t require censorship in the west they certainly are just leaving money on the table they could easily get but that’s typical of Japan. They do the same thing with anime/manga. They could be making so much more money outside of Japan but they don’t try or just do a poor job.

At the end of the day though it’s for the better. The last thing we need is for them to start doing a great job of monetizing their products in the west to the point where they prioritize a western audience over a Japanese one. Then you could say goodbye to all Japanese incest porn and many other fetishes that wouldn’t be able to be sold in the west.

Also websites like DMM/fanza are region blocked in the west and no longer take western credit cards. I don’t know the exact reason for this but I’d imagine the credit card companies are giving the Japanese a hard time and refusing to process payments because of prominent fetishes like incest or loli. And if I had to guess I’d imagine western credit card companies would still refuse to process payments to the Japanese porn creators, even if they were only trying to release vanilla and/or censored porn in the west so long as they were still creating and releasing things like incest or loli in Japan. So again it comes back to the fact that I don’t think they’d be able to sell porn in the west without completely undermining the Japanese audience by confirming to standards set by western credit card companies.
