Don't forget you only get current month +1 older release. The greed in this modding scene is pretty astounding.

DarkLurker was making stuff for free for years, I don't mind that he wants to get some money out of it, I think the bigger issue is that the quality of his ports is really not very good at all, so if he wants to charge for his mods he should put more effort into them imo, his ports are probably the worst even now, I can't think of worse head mods as far as face likeness and quality of textures/meshes is concerned and it's really unfortunate because he ports less popular characters ( I cannot believe he's the only one who ported Fragile from DS, the mod community and it's supporters have abysmal taste) rather than ''DOA girl №194'' or ''The same character everyone ported at least twice by now''.

I think this is half how easy to port since newer games are much easier to rip and port and higher demand due to being more recent, someone like say KOS-MOS that would be much harder to import because the games she is on are rather old and on console. Unless someone makes a model they can import such as what happened with Queen Marika that was a port from RyanReos model.

Nah, almost every new character from every game gets ported nowadays, it's a non-issue more or less, the real reason is that the paypigs choose the same shit over and over + the author wants to cash in on the popular demand. You can see that access to models is a non-issue if you take a look at what gets ported to VAM.

As I said, they arent ports from games but of models created by other people ... Artoria Lancer doesnt even have a 3D model to port since she is from F/GO that is uses 3D sprites.

And yes, they can port from VAM but good luck getting very old characters, take Lum Invader ... you cannot port her because I dont think there is any 3d game she even appeared on, same with the Sailor Senshi and many characters, Koikatu at least have the advantage of being easier to reproduce the anime look but not HS2 that would require specific head meshes.

I will also point out if that was so easy, why wouldnt be more mods from mihoyo games? Its not like they dont exist but from what is a rather popular games that do run in Unity that would make it easy to port, we rarely see then but I can guess why exactly ... its because of how heads are rigged as all their games use the "anime" style so you cannot just export and be done, you have to do the entire head rig so expressions work and so they dont because its too much work.

Why are you putting words in my mouth? When the fuck did I say ANYTHING about anime characters or some PS2 era characters? We have Koikatsu for those, and it's doing great. I SPECIFICALLY mentioned Fragile from Death Stranding 1 ( and now 2), and there are so many more 3D characters from recent years who don't get ported because they're not DOA/FF/Other major IP girl with generic face or is ''harder'' to port ( like Ranni or Malenia from Elden Ring for example - god forbid we port those, have another Melina port as a treat instead).
Like I also said - vast majority of 3D characters who get ripped from the games already get worked on by the porter to assign new bones and get new rigging, and even then I am pretty sure that this is irrelevant since for Illusion games you have to create new bones and do the rigging anyway, but maybe that's not true anymore.

Either way - what does that have to do with anything anyway? I only mentioned it as a positive for DR as he is better about picking less popular characters to port, that's it.

You are not wrong about the free releases, it's true for quite a few modders on patreon. I have nothing against modders getting some patron cash for their work in any way tbh. I just don't like what this has become by now, instead of subbing to support, being able to influence what get's made and getting early access to the newest stuff, you now get FOMO shit, locking previous work behind long term subscription or very high priced sub tiers. The sops adding to that as well. For some Patreons I don't even clearly know what I would get access to. This isn't true for everyone of course.

Eh, I think it makes sense - most modders figured out by now that gooners will pay premium if they can afford to + the ''market'' is really fragmented, so people vary strongly in their sub numbers, so it makes sense to squeeze out more from the few you have, I don't begrudge him that in theory, I just think he'd be way more popular ( and richer for it) if his work was just better. As much as we shit on GDC as a person he does really good work generally, at least that's why he's so ''big'' as I understand it. Well, and the discord server being what it is =)

True, that applies to a lot of things in life. And it's not like I don't understand why it is like it is, doesn't mean I have to like it though.

I said, and will say AGAIN, they are ports ... maybe I didnt make myself understood.

They rip the assents from those games files.

What happens when said assents dont exist? they have to create then from scratch so its far easier to just rip assents because they exist that create then.

I mentioned KOS-MOS because she used to be rather popular, she dropped out and her assents are from those PS2 games that means they arent really suitable for HS2 and would have to be recreated. That was just a example and I thought it was pretty straightforward but clearly it was not.

We have Koikatsu for those, and it's doing great.
And I specifically said Koikatsu works for anime characters, it doesnt for 3d character.

I will point out.

He goes over Luna from Expedition 33 were her head is 22k vertices as the HS2 head is just 4k, obvious this will have a significant performance hit, this is the problem ... same meshes have too much vertices and others too few, depending on factors that can be reduced or increased but that is obviously a extra step requiring tuning and can simply not working.

Reason why the other get made is because its either their assents rip are within HS2 count or because other modders created meshes that are, this shouldnt be hard to understand ...

Often this is because of how easy the process is, not because its popular ... DOA are pretty much rips from DOA5.6 or VV that are pretty lightweight performance-wise.

That can be automated to a point, also often they share the same, Cunihinx made a post talking about Stellar Blade were he mentions that they used morphs for facial expressions and not bones and how creating then "it's painful and likely will take a long time", he did got it working but I am mentioning this because its a HS2 modder talking about how they extract meshes and make then work.

Either way - what does that have to do with anything anyway? I only mentioned it as a positive for DR as he is better about picking less popular characters to port, that's it.
In the end its about convenience, if its mostly done then you can put then out quite fast as if you have to create it mostly from scratch it will take a much longer time.

Also I checked and Darkruler puts up a poll and I believe takes commissions, also I just checked and what I see? Ayane, Eve and Mai ... also I see Fortnight that means those are rips from Fortnight ... pays the bills I suppose.

I must say that DOAXVV has contributed so many clothing models that they can be seen in various 3D games.
However, KT is still silent and giving everything. It's the greatest 3D model creator of all time.

Port from VAM?? Are you saying there are Honey 2 modders out there that have ported girls from VAM to HS2 or another Illusion game?

You are talking about KoiKatsu? What is KT?

No idea, I guess some ported VAM assents but were they even VAM assents to begin?

Koei Tecmo

They also use KT as their logo.

But who did, and or what girls? I was thinking about how amazing it would be if that were possible VAM to HS2. Holy shit.

GDC's July folder was on Kemono for a couple of days before getting taken down, can anyone share the Club Vibe outfit here?
